Ordered my second kydex chest rig from GunfighterInc for my Sig P220 Hunter, and have determined the kydex to gun fit is tighter than I would like. It sounds like heating the troubled area with a hair dryer, and then inserting the weapon may be an easy fix, however I thought I'd run it past you all for any additional do's, don'ts, or other thoughts before proceeding
Thanks in advance!
Ken
Afternoon,
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance
Ken
I have no experience with changing the fit of a kydex holster. I remember seeing a guy at gun shows that would make you a kydex holster, rather crudely, using a heat gun to form the kydex. Heat guns are a lot hotter than a hair dryer, so I doubt that you would ruin it.
Unlike leather, it'll never stretch even if you wrap the gun and insert it forcefully. Heat would seem to be the only option. Worse case scenario it gets too loose and you glue some moleskin or felt inside.
Absolutely, Thanks man 😀
I live a few miles from gunfighters, I have been to the facility and I bet they will fix or modify the holster to your needs.
Call and see what they can do, ask for Matt..He was very helpful when I was there recently.
Thanks, Matt has been very helpful to me as well, waiting for his suggestions now, and should know more today
Ken
I have made Kyle's holsters but the MFG probably would like the opportunity to see the issue so they can avoided those in the future. They cannot fix what they do not know about....
Thanks Ramjet, this was an "on hand pre-made skin" for the P220 Hunter, not a custom as ordered build. In my mind, right or wrong, a pre-made or custom build should be dimensionally the same. GunfighterInc and their support personal, via Matt Forness have been phenomenal, not to mention the quality of their products and fast ship time.
Thanks
Ken
This just in from Matt Forness at GunfighterInc on refitting a kydex holster
Reduce Retention:
Please follow these instructions:
By using a heat source (hair dryer or heat gun) to slowly heat up the trigger detent on the backside of the holster with the firearm in the holster. After heating up the trigger detent, draw the firearm out of the holster. Then allow that area to cool. The use of a fan is highly recommended. Once the holster is cooled, reinsert the firearm to test the retention. If the holster is still too tight repeat the same steps. But the second time after heating up the trigger detent, draw, insert and draw the firearm then allow the holster to cool.
1). Heat up trigger detent on the backside of the holster. (with firearm in the holster)
2). Draw firearm from the holster.
3). Use a fan to cool the trigger detent.
4). Test holster retention.
If it is still too tight of a retention:
1). Heat up trigger detent on the backside of the holster. (with firearm in the holster)
2). Draw firearm from the holster.
3). Holster firearm.
4). Draw firearm from the holster.
5). Use a fan to cool the trigger detent.
6). Test holster retention.
NOTE: if the retention is still too tight you can add an extra draw and reinsert the firearm before allowing the holster to cool.
Increase Retention:
By using a heat source (lighter, hair dryer or heat gun) to slowly heat up the trigger detent on the backside of the holster with the firearm in the holster. After heating up the trigger detent, use your thumb and lightly press downwards on the trigger detent into the trigger well. Then allow that area to cool. Once the holster is cooled test the holster retention. If the retention is still not tight enough repeat the steps.
1). Heat up trigger detent on the backside of the holster. (with firearm in the holster)
2). press downwards on the trigger detent into the trigger well. (lightly)
3). Allow the holster to cool.
4). Test holster retention.
Note: While pressing downward on the trigger detent start with small adjustments.
Thank you for choosing Gunfighters Inc. God bless and have a great rest of your week.

hello again ken, an old trick, wrap your firearm with ONE wrap of blue painters tape and insert it into the holster, then use a hairdryer to heat the kydex and let it cool with the firearm installed, we use this with mag wells on glocks in the old days, if that doesnt work use 2 wraps but dont go further than 2 as this may cause a loose weapon.....hope this helps...
Thanks 10_Fan, I will remember that. I did correct the issue today with the readme sent by GunfighterInc, and worked perfectly 😊
