Title: So many 9mm's
Post by: gadabout on April 04 2021 11:19:54 AM MDT
I am burned out on loading 9mm so switching up to 40 cal. As you may recall I was having problems with a
S&W M&P 40 with feeding on the first round issue. I think I sort of resolved it by going to 180g bullets and polishing the feed ramp but really don't remember the details. I still have a bunch of 165g that I can load so will try those. Craig

Hey Craig, is it only one weapon this is happening with?

Yes. There is a thread with the long story of problems with this one gun. I'll look for it and report back.  Craig

Interesting, but is a place to start. Do you have any buddies with a different pistol to try your S&W .40's?

Yeah all my rounds shot great in my friends glock and another friend had somthing else that shot my rounds great. After the super ramp polishing it was better and I will try some new rounds maybe tomorrow.  Craig

I'm tired of loading 9mm also.  Still have 2500 primed ready to load.

I'm with you DDRiller,
I've loaded thousands of 9's when I first started reloading, and really liked it, however at this point 45's and 10mm are my go to. I enjoy shooting 9's a great deal, but with a single stage Rock Chucker press, it doesn't really work.  I've gotten to the point (time wise) that my favorite calibers are more worth putting my time and energy into

Hey Ken, I like loading 9's because it's easy and cheap. I never liked 45's to shoot and 10's are a little rough to shoot for any length of time. But really I have loaded 38sp, 357,380, 44, 50ae, 41ae, 10mm,40 cal and more I am sure but 9's shoot good for target and my carry choice because of over 12  rounds or there a bouts. Craig

A couple more I forgot,41 mag, 45 long colt. Like 10 rifle or so.

Well I went to finish the 165g v-chrown 40 cal and under it I found 180g gold dots. So I just loaded 50 165 and will finish with 50 180g. Craig

Just got back from shooting the 40 cal and all I can say is ALL FIXED!!!! It turned out my first rounds were loaded too short maybe for that gun. The new rounds,165g v-chrown and 180g gold dot shot perfect. Not as accurate as I would like but that was me I am sure. On the paper and just high and or low at times but just me shooting with a big smile on my face. The old rounds that I had with me jamed as before but they were very short loaded. I will measure and get back to you all. OK measured some and they are all around 1.11 or so. Don't know but my first rounds were bad for sure. Craig

Ya know I should have been tipped off when the Nosler rounds shot perfectly in the 40 cal. Oh well you would think I would be satisfied it is fixed but I seem to be bummer it took so long to figure out!!!!Craig

Well looking for something to load as I have already topped off the 40 cal  shot yesterday. How about 200g blue bullets?? Why not? Nosler has good data and they like Power Pistol, my favorite, will load at 5.3 or so.  Craig
