Title: Recommended holster for railed 5" 1911
Post by: B320 on July 29 2021 07:26:15 AM MDT
Greetings Men,

Any solid recommendations for an IWB holster for a railed 5" 1911? I'm looking for something to carry between 1-4 o'clock. For reference, I'm 6", 180lbs. I've used Galco Sto-N-Go (https://www.galcogunleather.com/stow-n-go-iwb-holster_8_1_1302.html?sku=STO212 (https://www.galcogunleather.com/stow-n-go-iwb-holster_8_1_1302.html?sku=STO212)) holsters for smaller carry pieces (LCP & Shield) but it seems like it would have a terrible draw stroke/lots of friction for a railed 5" 1911.

Has anyone of my size used a Crossbreed "Reckoning" (https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/the-reckoning-holster.html (https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/the-reckoning-holster.html)) holster for a railed 5" 1911?

Any other strong recommendations? I suspect my preference would be something made of all kydex or a leather kydex hybrid, sub $80.

Vedder Light Tuck IWB.  Best IWB for my money.

I have these holsters for every gun I own that gets IWB carry.  Great experience with them.  I have carried 1911's (Para, Rock, Ruger), Glock (20/29/27), Sig (226/229), HK (P30L, P30SK), Beretta (92/96), Hi Power.  About the only gun I don't have a holster from them for is my Witness, and only because they don't make one, or at least they didn't.  I made my own patterned after their using their clips and hardware.

Thanks for the input. I saw that the Vedder was highly recommended in the G20 holster thread as well...  wasn't sure whether or not a full steel 1911 with rail would make the recommendation any different. I'm strongly leaning towards crafting my own after seeing your recommendation.

I've messed around with kydex; it does seem like a simple design to replicate with their clips/winds, etc.

The Vedder has smaller footprint (width-wise) than the Crossbreed, though I wonder what kind of appreciable difference there is girth-wise between the two, since the Crossbreed reduced "carry-girth" by the width of a belt. Anyone here have experience with the Crossbreed and Vedder?

A full sized railed gun IWB? What are you gonna hang on the rail?

Phew! Lost my account information for a while. I found the 10mm I wanted and it happened to have a rail. Didn't need it; don't plan to hang anything on it.

I ended up getting a Crossbreed Reckoning from their "seconds" site. Serves the purpose; high quality and has held up well.
