I stumbled onto this forum seeking info on this pistol. My LGS has two in stock, and while I'm familiar with the Hunter 6",I no nothing of this weapon.I do shoot a Glock 20 w/a 6"KKM barrel, but would appreciate some insight into this pistol?
I have an older full-size steel witness, as well as an Elite Match. I very much like them both. I can't comment on the poly witness but would not hesitate to add one to my collection of 10's if money, gun and me ever intersect.
Go for it! I have a Hunter and Match that function 100%.
The Witness is a nice Pistol
I love my Full Sized Steel (Frame) with its 10mm Compact and Longslide Uppers
I carry the Semi-Compact every day
What ammo you use when carrying compact?

180gr Winchester Silver Dot HP

What ammo is that? I never knew Winchester to make a 180gr and/or Silver Dot.
The only thing I know of they make at all is a 175gr Silvertip.

You're probably right....my bad
I've had these for a few years and could quite remember
Thought they were 180s, but knew they were Silver something or others
Never bothered to look them up again
I know I was looking at the 180gr Double Tap Gold Dot a little while back
Musta got them mixed-up in the dusty mess that is my memory
Very nice, like the fixed sights.Forgot to ask, what spring setup you using.

The Hammer Spring, the Longslide and the Compact Recoil Springs...All stock Tanfoglio / EAA Springs
Well,I bought the Witness P-F today, took a box of 170grn.PMC into the range to try her out.Nice groups,a little low and to the right.Similar to my g-20 but better.Fits in the same holster I used for the 20.Ordered a 6" Hunter that should arrive in the next few weeks.
6" would be GREAT
My (4 7/8") Longslide is very fun and quite accurate
Kinda like a High Cap Delta Gold Cup:

transman, we need some pictures! :D

Oh boy.
That's going to be fun. The dealer I bought mine from told me "Don't do anything with the trigger. Just shoot it for about 300 rounds and it will smooth out." I'd say it was closer to 5-600 rds, but he was right. IMO the Hunter is a
very good buy--a 10 on my scale of gun-for-the-money, and a 10 on the old fun-factor scale, too.
Where are you guys going to buy your Witnesses? I can't find anything up here in Washington State and no luck online either. Am I just not holding my mouth right?

I wish it was DA though.
SA is one of the very special things I like about it. Not much of a DA fan, however my Kahr K40 is certainly one I can't see getting rid of.
I found my Hunter at Gunsamerica, and it looks like the guy I bought mine from puts one up every so often--he had another Hunter there just recently.
+2 for single action!
Why buy the Hunter? Just do this...

I did that too. Then bought a Hunter because it's better.

Its not just the longer Barrel but the longer Sight Radius of the Slide
And the Fully Adjustable Rears
And better frame, better guide rod, drilled for optics and easier recoil.
And the long dust cover adds a bunch of mass up front which really tames recoil.
A longer barrel just gives you velocity.
Of course, you could argue that in a hunting arm, you generally use a single focal plane optic, so longer sight radius doesn't matter, and you adhere to one shot/one kill, so follow up shots aren't needed.
But, the hunter is still a better made gun as a product of the custom shop and a bunch of hand fitting. Plus it is made from parts Tanfoglio makes, not parts they buy from the eastern pacific.
"Eastern Pacific" That's funny. You mean, like, California?
I just needed a 6 inch barrel so I could hunt with a pistol in WI.

In what way do you feel the frame is 'better'? Just curious. And while I definitely like the aft end of the Hunter guide rod in terms of distributing the nastiness, the two-piece construction concept is just bizarre. In fact, the roll pin they put the two pieces together with sheared completely apart on mine--so I wasn't impressed. Replaced the roll pin with a chunk of wire cut from the end of a steel landscaping staple, and it pressed in perfectly with a light press fit. It'w worked flawlessly ever since. But, I don't get why they went to such goofy extremes to build a guide rod...it doesn't
do anything.
If I already had the witness and just wanted to be compliant, period, yes, I'd get the long barrel. If I wanted an all-steel double stack single action 6" 1911 type 10mm auto pistol, I believe there's one choice--Hunter.
There's only 3 minor aspects of the Hunter that are goofy beyond belief, to me--the outrageous guide rod assembly, but I may simply not understand why it needs all the bizarre machining it has, the design of the rear adjustable to also serve the purpose of retaining the pin block spring, and the lateral wobble in the trigger (a minor annoyance). I don't care what ANYONE says, the rear sight being used to retain the pin block spring is simply brain dead. Creative, but wrong. Innovative, but dumb.
I'd buy another one in a hearbeat. The best 1911 that a 1911 never was, IMO, and as evidenced by its performance in the hands of a moron such as myself--dead nuts accurate.I can't imagine what a disciplined young shooter with eyesight and training could do with this thing. Quite possibly wipe the floor with a number of custom 45ACP shooters, I don't know. It's pretty good I think.
The checkering front and back, less open space in the grip panel area, squared trigger guard for more room, longer frame, extended beavertail.
Henning Cone guide rod makes the non-Hunters like a Hunter. Much more surface area.

What part of the Hunter rod is giving problems?

Apparently "Far East" and "Pacific Rim" collided in my brain.
Pacific rim is what I meant. Mainly because I can't spell Philippines. :P

I have both a full size and an Elite Match. The frames for all the "elite" guns are made in Italy, not in the Philippines. And comparing them side by side, they are obviously better. More material, better polish, fewer machine marks, fewer casting marks. In the case of my elite match, the frame is hard chromed.
