I do agree there is a dangerous trend toward big government.
But I don't think it is new or even intentionally government sponsored.
Just too many people who have never had their beliefs about "how things should be" challenged. Since they know how to live life for everyone, they push for laws that will encourage everyone to live that way.
There are plenty of examples on both sides of the aisle. Liberals push gun control, social programs, and unemployment in order to make the world safe and cuddly for everyone. The religious right pushes their views on abortion, orgin of life and marriage in order to ensure we are a God fearing people.
Heck, in Georgia there is even a town where you are required by law to own a gun.
The problem with all these viewpoints is they fall outside the government purvey as the constitution is written and under the core philosophies of a free society.
Sure, I have the right to unemployment coverage, but it is <b>insurance</b>. No reason it needs to be government sponsored and administered. I don't need them to help me with car insurance.
And yes, abortion is taking a human life. And I think the laws currently don't respect that. But banning abortion ignores that fact that there <b>are</b> justifications for taking life. That is why so many of us carry guns...for justifiable use of lethal force. If the mother's life or health is seriously threatened by the pregnancy it should be her choice whether to proceed or abort (Sorry fathers. I hope women will consult us, but it is <b>her</b> life that is being threatened, so it is her choice.)
And while I do think every person has the responsibility to be the first line of defense of their life and property, I don't think the government has the right to tell them what tools they have to have for that purpose. If I am happy with a slingshot, or if I have issues with the concept of violence, then I shouldn't be forced to use a gun.
In general we need to get out of each other's business in America, and again become truly free. Free to live life as we determine will best secure our happiness and free to deal with the consequences of our choices.
