Title: New Gun Day - Sig P320 X-Ten
Post by: Yurei on June 04 2022 11:49:15 AM MDT
Stopped in at the local arms peddler this morning to pick up some ammo and, as soon as they saw me walk in, they waved me over and said ?We just got something in for you!?

Turns out, they received 4 of the new X-Tens yesterday evening and set one back for me knowing I?d be in this morning to pick-up the Wife's surprise P365xl Spectre. Needles to say, two new Sigs came home today. (I paid $799 for it. I?m happy with that especially seeing ?early adopter? pricing up to $1600 in some places!)

First thing you notice is just how ergonomic the grip is. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference in grip size versus our X-Five Legion and the X-Ten. It?s amazing that they slimmed this down so much. As much as I like my G20SF, it feels like the ?80s design it is in comparison.

The grip texture is pretty much spot on for me, locking my hands in place without being overly abrasive.

The X-Ray sights are a nice touch, and I like the fact that this P320 model has the optics plate separate from the irons. I may actually break down and add a dot on this. Wonder if anyone has a green dot that can take the abuse?

The trigger is a better than normal version of the X-frame flat trigger, lighter than my V-Tac, but not as good as the X-Five Legion. I?d say it is a very good ?service? trigger with decent reset and only a bit of creep. If it?s like my V-Tac, it will get better with use.

I?m hoping to get to the range tomorrow to start the break-in period. Pics below.

Oh, and here?s the Wife?s surprise. She?s wanted one for months and I grabbed it on a Memorial Day sale for $799, so she?s happy as well.

Look forward to your range report. If they come out with an AXG grip and Barsto supports them, I may consider

Well, first range trip went very well. Sadly I haven?t taken delivery of my Underwood order, but did put 150 rounds of 180 grain S&B, Sig and Blazer Brass through it, plus a box of 175 Grain Silvertips with 100% reliability. I was fully expecting a bobble or two during the break-in but it just gobbled it up and begged for more.

Observations:

1) Subjective recoil is less than my G20sf with the same ammo. It?s not quite as soft as my P220 Elite, but it weighs significantly less.
2) The slide is easier to run than either the G20 (better ergos) or the P220 (much lighter recoil spring)
3) The X-ray fixed sights are nice and were dead-on at 25 yards with all 4 ammo types. A nice feature of this version of the P320 is that the rear sight is separate from the optics mounting plate.
4) Transitions from plate to plate were quick (for me) and the pistol stayed on target much better than either my G20 or P220.
5) The trigger is already beginning to show signs of smoothing out. Additionally it shows no propensity to ?bite? the bottom of my finger (pinching some flesh between the trigger an trigger guard) which does occasionally happen with the G20 if I get sloppy on finger placement.
6) The grip is outstanding. No need for Talon grips on this one.

Cons:
1) Mold flashing on the frame and mag baseplates. A little work with a sharp blade took care of it, but annoying nonetheless.
2) The optic cut is for (no surprise) the Sig Romeo 01 Pro footprint. Sig recommends their Romeo 02 for durability. The other native choices are the Romeo 01 and the Leupold DPP. Everything else will need an adapter plate and, given the slide velocity, I?m not sure about those.
3) Early adopter problems - Extra mags are unobtainium. Nobody has this model listed for holsters. You can?t use any other FCUs in this model. No other frame sizes or slide/barrel lengths available yet. (Glock 19 sized 10mm? Yes please!)

So far, I?m quite happy with the new X-Ten. Hopefully my Underwood shipment will be here for next weekend.

Thanks for the info. Now if I didn?t feel like such a moron. I hoped the shipment would be here Friday but I sort of screwed up. I kept looking for a shipped notification only to discover that the order never went through. Not sure how I managed to mess that up but just placed the order today?.  Bugger.

Have some 165 Gold Dot and 115 Defender on the way. Hopefully the chronograph will be available at the club.

Thanks for the pics, couldn't get mine to load..I agree with your assessment as mine shot perfect as well. Most 320s I put a Wilson combat grip on but this one is actually very good.ergos are great. I just got some 220g Hardcastle from underwood, should be a hammer..ingot lucky, my m lgs got a couple extra mags before they got the gun, so I snagged them ahead of time.

What the heck, if it?s not the Smiths, it the Sig?s, not sure what these companies are thinking, they offer a dandy new weapon, but no mags to be found.

Ok, I admitt you guys made me wonder about mags.....So, I went to the LGS where I got my 320X 10 and bought two more mags.when I got the gun last week, I bought two of the 4, wanted to leave a couple for others. So I went back today and snagged the last two...so, now I got 6. That will do for now until they starting catching up.
