Title: Stoeger STR 9
Post by: gadabout on November 28 2022 10:16:50 AM MST
Well my club/range/gun shop was having a big black Friday sale and i couldn't find anything I didn't already have or didn't want so my pistol instructor suggested I look at the rental guns up for sale real cheap. Well I bought a Stoeger STR9. Nothing fancy but shoots real good and carries real well. Oh and not a scratch as I felt people would pick something else to shoot over the Stoeger. This is a new place in general so there isn't the traffic yet to burn up stuff. All the guns can't be over a year old as the contract for cheaper prices makes you hold it for rent a leased one year as per the wholesaler. Anyway the gun is very exceptible and like I said shoots very well.  Craig

Bin shooting up a storm in general so I started reloading in earnest. I shoot about 30 a day but lately have loaded about 600 rounds in 9mm. Boy it is easy when you just load one caliber as you don't have to change much. I do have good stock right now and that helps a lot. Even bought some small primers other day that are CCI mag primers but will work just fine in my mild loads and I have other primers I am using first before I get to the CCI's.  See ya  Craig

Hey Craig, so your finding you like the STR 9 quite a bit then?

Hey Ken, Yeah I am liking it a bunch but shoot the Sig to finish each range session as it is the nicer gun. I am still looking for the perfect carry gun but am having trouble with weight being the biggest problem. The Taurus's are the best for carry weight wise but I just prefer more rounds at leased 12 would make me happiest. My range just lowers the price to the point I just have to buy!! Craig

Toss an extra mag in your coat or something, works pretty well for me 😊

Yeah my holster guy makes a matching mag belt carry holster for any serious carry rig he makes for me. They are real nice and effective.  Craig

Well I was just trying on a bunch of guns for carry and ended up with the Taurus G2. I will try the Taurus TH9 this morning but it is exactly the same size as the Stoeger, I can swap the holsters with no problems but the G2 is still smaller and has a safety. It is as close to perfect as I can get I think!! I will take a look at the G3 but I think it is the same as the G2. Craig

Morning Craig, The GX4 has proven to be 100% for me so far, plus the GX4?s trigger is pretty awesome for such an inexpensive weapon. There is a lot of pre-travel, but once there, it has a very distinct wall, none of this, I know it?s going to go bang soon, but not 100% sure when 😀

Well I just shot the TH9 and it was very nice so I can carry that but it's just a little big. They make a TH9 compact that I will look at. Craig

Hey Ken yeah I got a GX4 like a few weeks ago and had some problems with the trigger being a hard pull but it is getting better, I really like the size and weight but thought I had issues with the no safety but it does have a trigger safety that I had forgotten about so it is fine to carry.

Hey Craig, I?ve got two of Vedder?s holsters for the GX4 you may want to look into. The ProDraw, and their Pocket Locker. I like the ProDraw quite a bit with the pan cake clip. I?ve always used the belt thread type, but being the weapon is so lightweight, and the holster has a very strong clip, it works really well. If I need to run a quick errand, it can be on and off in seconds. The Pocket Locker works well also, but requires sizable front pockets

These are a lot like my kydex holsters I have made for each gun. I am going to see my guy tomorrow and we are trying for a shoulder strap arrangement for like the full size 9mm guns. Craig

If your guy is unable to make what you?re looking for, Rudy from Black Hills Leather made me a Sonny Crockett Miami Classic shoulder rig for the P220 Elite. He?s not cheap or super fast, but does craft some really nice stuff

Hey Craig, Rudy also made these with pull the dot one-way fasteners. They?re easy to put on, say in your car without having to remove your belt, but the one way snaps will not release unless unsnapped in a certain (somewhat) challenging way 😀
