Title: Holster issue
Post by: gadabout on December 12 2022 07:05:54 AM MST
All my holsters are made for me by a friend that uses kydex and they are all excellent. The issue has always been the weight of a loaded gun would tend to slowly pull down my pants. I used suspenders for a while but didn't want the grandpa look this early in life. Two days ago I made a temporary sling arrangement that works very well. I carried a S&W CSX loaded, cocked and locked all day and it was fine. Today I am going to carry my Sig sp2022dp. BTW this sling only goes over the left shoulder and then down to the gun holster. It's just a loop with a quick release and strap length adjustment. I think my total cost is around 2.00. BTW pants coming down would make the 13 year olds day but the 16 year olds not so much. Oh well Ha Ha!! Craig

Well the Sig was too heavy and the sling doesn't clip to the belt clip very well. I need to come up with a solution to hook up the cloth sling material to the holster.  BTW I am trying this with inside the waistband holsters. It will be fine for outside holsters. I am sure I can think of a way to do this. It is nice when it works.  Craig

Hey Craig, a leather gun belt that is thick and rigid has worked well for me. With a belt like this, even my aprx 44 oz P220 stays in position with no ?drop pants? hoodlum look whatsoever. Another possible issue is just getting used to the weight. With the proper belt, and a few weeks of all day carry, you won?t notice it nearly as much. Plus Hanks Belts offers a 100 year warranty

Hey Ken many years ago I bought a gun belt and still wear it today. Lately I have lost weight and am a skinny guy anyway. Gun or no my paints work down as I move anyway. The sling will work and it is comfortable enough to not be a problem. I just need a way to connect the cloth belt to the holster. My holster has grommets and such but I would like to able to move the cloth belt for adjustment and removal. Craig

Hey Craig, another option would be a GunfightersINC Chest rig, or one of their Spectre shoulder holsters. I?m not sure with the Spectre, but with their Kenai Chest holsters you can buy additional Kydex skins so it?s interchangeable for several weapons, plus it wouldn?t pull your trousers down 😂

Boy Ken I would take either one of those. They don't list my SIG 2022 but might be worth a call. Thanks for the input.   Craig

I worked on a set of suspenders I used to use and wore them today. Very nice with the S&W CSX. I forgot I had the gun on it was so comfortable. Will still work on the sling though.  Craig

I had the same problem until I got a steel reinforced gun belt. I have a nextbelt brand. I thought it would be uncomfortable as stiff as it feels but after the first day its just as comfortable as a heavy leather belt and it doesn?t sag with a XDM 4.5?. Also the 1/4? adjustment system allows perfect tightness.

Hey Craig, I think if you used a steel reinforced gun belt, or a thick rigid leather belt like 38-40  mentioned, it?s just a matter of getting used to the weight. With a serious gun belt, your pants aren?t going anywhere 😀

OK got my new suspenders in today that are a belt clip type and they work great. I carried a small gun all day and forgot I was carrying it at times. The whole idea of suspenders clips to your belt is a great idea. The idea that you don't need them with a belt makes them kind of hard to find but the net has a few places with lots of selections for suspenders. I will try a full size 9mm tomorrow if I remember.  Craig

I have on the Sig sp2022dp full size gun right now and barely feel it.  Craig

For me, weight is pretty irrelevant as long as a good holster and thick ridged leather belt is involved. For the first few minutes it may seem a bit heavy, but after that, it?s hardly noticeable

Well I replyed to this thread in the wrong place so I will do it again. I carried the sig 2022dp for close to 8 hours and it was no problem so I have switched to the Taurus g2 and forgot I was carrying anything!!!  Craig
