Title: 40 cal loading
Post by: gadabout on April 26 2023 01:12:29 PM MDT
I was getting ready to load 40 cal as I just got a bunch of projectiles in from American. I knew I had brass but wanted to S.S. tumble it first. Found what I thought was a can of mostly 40 cal but as I started to separate into 40 cal, 45 cal came across some 41AE. This is worth a lot more to me than the 40 or45. I am guessing around 30+. Oh happy days. Craig

I loaded the 7 155g projectiles, came out OK then did 30 180g both of these are to test tomorrow. This will tell me where to load the 165g.  Craig

The 155g shot great as did the 180g. Had some minor feed issue but I think it was my loading was the suspect!! I have more to load now I have the load I want I will just be more careful with resizing and flare. Craig

Well the 41AE turned out to be around 10. They are so close to 40 cal size it's easy to get them mixed up. I would like to still make a special load for the 41AE using like 300mp or something like that or possibly AA9. I did run the 10 41AE thru like 2hrs in the s.s. tumbler and they came out super clean.  Craig

Moving right along I just finished a few 40 cal and I adjusted the dies as I think after doing 10mm I don't seem to readjust correctly always. Got it this time though. I don't think I have any bullets left for the 41AE but in looking I found a bunch of loaded 41 that is a Lieghigh bullet I di a while ago. A real nice bullet for personal defense or going after that pesky rhino in the back yard. Hee, Hee.  Craig

AA5 is my go to powder when I want my loads to bark a bit. I really like it for 9mm but I tend to shoot more .40. That powder makes those loads, rounds perform more like my carry loads.
