Title: Chronograph testing today and expansion results LOL
Post by: Intercooler on July 05 2012 03:17:12 PM MDT
Kind of on the expansion part. I tried phone books... didn't work too well but I will take some pictures for the laughs  :P

Remington 180gr FMJ (Razorback 5") 1168, 1184, 1161, 1153, 1196. Average = 1172.4 FPS/ 549.25 LBS
Right To Bear 180gr FMJ (Razorback) 1301, 1293, 1292, 1280, 1294. Average = 1292 FPS/ 667.03 LBS

The HP expansion testing was Underwood 180gr Gold Dot, Underwood 180gr XTP and Federal 180gr Hydra-Shok plus I threw in a CCI 32gr Stinger .22LR HP. Shockingly if you wrapped yourself in 6 layers of phone books you have a cheap bullet proof vest  :o

Yea green and white box. They load their 10mm better than most and their Magnums are darn good!

Here is some .357 and .44 stuff I did today as well. American Eagle/Federal are doing some excellent Magnums too!

Redhawk 7.5" barrel:

Underwood 240gr FMJ - 1239, 1259, 1266, 1267. Average = 1257.75 FPS/ 842.85 LBS.
Remington 180gr JSP L44MG7- 1628, 1708, 1745, 1681, 1659, 1625. Average = 1674.3 FPS/ 1120.19 LBS.
American Eagle 240gr JSP AE44B - 1486, 1471, 1582, 1536, 1539. Average = 1522.8 FPS/ 1235.52 LBS. Hot stuff!!
PBR 240gr JSP - 1272, 1359, 1426, 1274. Average = 1332.75 FPS/ 946.37 LBS.

GP100 4" barrel:

American Eagle 158gr JSP - 1365, 1426, 1410, 1349, 1323, 1327. Average = 1366.67 FPS/ 626.69 LBS.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak5OC6bPsjO8dFlJSEh0WWctdThTRGlpaFljS2x4VlE#gid=0

Right To Bear gave me 1304 FPS/ 680 LBS out of my Match.

When using Phone Books some will tie them together and soak them in an ice chest for a few days.  That provides a wetpack test media...

They were rain soaked and in the plastic wrap bundle. I may leave the expansion up to the expert... tnoutdoors9.

Rain generally won't do it.  You have to given them lots of water and time, room to expand, and a way to keep the whole soggy mess together.  Twin and a cooler work.

I am going to try some $1.00 plastic bins from all-a-dollar.  Put phone books in, add water, wait a few days and shoot.

That might work. I looked at ballistics gel and it's expensive! I don't think anyone has found a cheap way to do testing which gives real world results. Plus you have to add bone into the equation somehow plus clothing layers.

Denim jacket on a pig.  :P

You need to go visit Vice in Texas and hunt some feral hogs.

Well, they don't look pretty.   But at least they hit the mark.

Wondering if you accidentally forgot to bring that load pictured in the "Contacted Ruger today and my Redhawk is here." thread.   ;D

No but 10mm testing is coming to an end it seems. I have three to test when they get here which are GAS Ammo, T-Bird and 3 gun ammo. After that about all the 10's will have been tested!

Dallas and GoodToGo are still out there but haven't been able to get ordered. Also it looks like Appalachian has fallen off the map!

Just teasing since there was some joking about lighting off those Buffalo Bore 340 grainers.  :)

I plan on launching those! I haven't got enough seat time with it yet to muster the courage  :o

When I do I will post back how my hand feels!
