Title: 10mm Day Out
Post by: StockIIBoss on January 21 2014 02:09:06 PM MST
It was my first range outing with the S&W 1076, and it's pretty impressive. Nary a problem, as you'd expect. I bench rested a mags worth (9) at 25 yards, and it's very accurate. I had 100 rounds of Armscor and Underwood 180 FMJ's. Wow, I stay amazed at the difference a 'real' 10mm round makes. But, for plinking and paper, the dumbed down loads are just fine.

I wasn't so fortunate with the Tanfo Stock II. I had swapped out the mainspring, going 2 lbs less, and every 3rd or so shot didn't go bang for me. Light strikes. Looks like I'll be putting the stock mainspring back in...  or at least trying a lighter firing pin spring first. Seems there's always something, some subliminal excuse I've concocted, as an excuse to get back out to the range!  :D

One of the range officer's also has a 1076 but had never tried anything but the weaker loads through it. I loaded up a couple Armscor and a couple Underwoods to let him try it. It's even more impressive when you're sitting back watching the difference! Especially the look on his face! I think Underwood has found a new customer.

I also ran 50 rounds of 9mm through one of my carry pieces, a DB9. No failures. Love than little sucker! Love it better when I'm wearing gloves!

All in all a fun range day. You guys need to try it more often. No, really!

You must like tinkering. I never touched any of the EAA pieces or 1006 except heavier recoil springs. All of them run 100%!

Yeah I do.

All my full size guns run 100% as is as well, but that doesn't mean they couldn't stand some improvement, mostly in the trigger department. I've got the 1076 nasty trigger figured out and have already started drawing up a mod in CAD. It will be a simple 'snap in' user installation to reduce the trigger take up. Adjustable, too, to allow for tolerances, manufacturing variances, and personal preferences. The thing I like about this mod is that there's no smithing, no alterations required. You don't even have to disassemble the gun beyond the basics. Sweet, huh? Now whether this will work as intended.....  ;)

Sounds interesting. My Match trigger before I sold it was about 2.5lbs all on its own. Over time with use it just got better!

Here's a video of my Stock II trigger after machining a modified disconnector. As it turns out, it's equivalent to the CZ custom shop mod (same type of thing with the disconnector) and the Cajun Gun Works modified disconnector. These all happened about the same time so made no plans to try to compete with my 'improved' version, and laid it to rest.

I could have had a V8!

I have a Sarsilmaz 45 ACP that is nearly as good out of the box as my modified StockII! A 14+1 big-ass .45 that ain't bad at all for a $450 (when I bought it) gun. I think there's more to the eye with the manufacturing tolerances and sometimes you'll get a really fine piece. The accidental custom gun! LOL
