Just curious how many actually carry the 10mm, and how often.
For me, it is all the time. Last night my daughter called about 9:30 to tell us she had a ride home so we only had to wait up, not wait up to go out and get her.
My wife asked if I was going to jammy up.
"Where would I keep my gun?" I asked. "Home invasion is still possible!"
I usually carry the G-29 but sometimes the G-30... ???
There are several I may carry, depending on the conditions. A 10 is almost never out of reach, however. HD is all of them....Long, short, fat, skinny, quiet, loud.
Okay, I'm outed....
Summer carry is a Kahr CM40 in my pocket........cooler weather a Charter 44 Spec in a owb holster. Couple of others around the house and basement. Always subject to change, of course.
Most of the time I carry my Glock 29 IWB. In the winter, more often I carry my Glock 20 either on the belt or IWB. My "quick run to the store drop a gun into my pocket summer carry" is a snubby .357.

Always carry a 10mm. Carry my 1911 unless I'm in the woods or at a place I had to fly to, then it's my Glock 29.
EDC the G-20, year round.
I swapped from the g-21 about 5 years ago.
My g20c is my OC gun, my CC is a xd45 compact
EDC the 29 in a Galco OWB. Winchester 175 gr. Silvertips.
After carrying the Kimber 10 for years, the Glock feels like a derringer.
No carry permit here (CA wants its citizens to be as vulnerable as possible) but when I carry where it's legal, I carry my Glock 20. It's surprisingly not too difficult to carry concealed, even with just a t-shirt and shorts.

I used to carry a G30. Went from that, to a G21, and now it's the G29. Have had a G20 for years, only carried it regularly. Always thought the "10" was too much in the penetration department. After much deliberation, have concluded, there is no better carry caliber than the "10"! Doubtful I'll ever need to use a firearm to save my, or others, but, if I do, I want to be the winner!!!!!!!!
Not that I'm a bad shot, actually, I'm pretty good with a pistol, but, some things of which I'm certain. I don't want to have to rely on the mystical, magical bullet, to get the job done, and not, absolutely, positive, in a stressful scenario, that perfect shot placement can be counted on. I am confident in hits, and, I want the delivery that the "10" offers. Flat shooting, accurate, and devastating on tissue matter. Don't want to have concerns on what the goblin is wearing ( jean jacket, carhart) you get the picture. Even carrying regularly, is a huge decision. When all considerations are thought out, why carry anything less?
I carried one of my Deltas for a couple years, graduated to the G23 and it still remains...
If I go anywhere, its a constant companion.
I bought the G20 to hunt with.. maybe a 29 is in my future and if so I would carry it allot more.

You're not trying hard enough. It can happen, even in L.A. or S.F. It's all about the language.
Considering counties like SF issue numbers between 10 and 20 CCWs per year, it's all but impossible to get a license to carry living there. I actually live in a county with above average issuance rates, but I can't afford to throw away the 2-400 bucks for the whole process just to be refused and have to mention on any subsequent applications that I was refused at one time. Couple that with the fact that I am young, and that I'll be moving away from home after school in a couple years (moving out of a county voids your ccw and you have to apply in the new county), it's not something that's really feasible for me to do right now.

I understand what you're saying. It isn't easy, nor cheap. If you really want a CCW, and there's nothing in your history to disqualify you, you can get one. Once you have one, though, you can always keep it, as long as you don't give them reason to disqualify you. If you move, you do have to go through the local process, but they will issue unless you give them reason not to. Your previous CCW isn't void, but will expire within a period, unless you get an application in process. A denial may or may not be bad, depending on the reason. Most denials are unjust, and can be appealed successfully. Most of the CCW-unfriendly counties have a policy to deny first, and approve only after an appeal. If you have nothing to hide, or any real reason to be denied, they will eventually issue. You do have to choose your language carefully, though. Although it should be sufficient, "personal or family defense" isn't enough in most CA counties, anymore. S.F. doesn't issue many, but they issue. If you are persistent, you'll get one.

I wouldn't be embarrassed that its not a 10. That 357 Sig is one of my favorite rounds (hence the screen name). I got rid of my 32 when the ammo for it became kinda hard to find in this area. I still have a Sig P226 (357 Sig) but I dont shoot it often. Now that I am into reloading, I have thought about getting another one. When I do, that 32 will be my EDC.
I switch back and forth between a G29 and a Bersa Firestorm 45 ACP. It depends on how I am dressed. I am left handed and it is very hard to find a holster at a retailer. I would like to see a holster and if the store allows, try one one before I buy it.
In my state you have to be 21. That's it. WY recognizes the 2nd. We can carry open, concealed, whatever. When in town I carry the j-frame concealed. When I'm out beatin around in the hills(mountains to some) The G20 rides nicely in my Miami classic II. If it came down to it, I'd carry illegally. I could give a shit what some "suit" thinks. It's your GOD GIVEN RIGHT to be able to protect yourself and those around you. Do the bad guys worry about CCW permits?

Never been a bad guy. I have been a good guy over 21 back in the dark days of shall issue. And I didn't really worry about a permit. Back then I carried either a Glock 22 or a Delta Elite.

There are a few excellent carry rounds! Some better than others! None better then the 10MM!!!!!!!!
IMHO of course. ;D
I know it is often recommended (and probably with good reason) to always train with and carry the same gun, but I have a hard time following that one myself. I have too many guns that I like to carry. I will only carry a gun that I shoot well and have confidence in, but that still leaves a number of choices. It depends somewhat on what I will be doing and more importantly what I'll be wearing for the day. Today I'm carrying my S&W model 65 revolver. Other than my model 610, the rest of my 10 mm guns get into the rotation pretty frequently. I wear scrubs at work and the "holster" that works best with scrubs is a belly band. I've carried full sized 1911, S&W 1076, and L frame revolvers in the belly band but they do tend to print on my scrub tops a bit more, so most days it will be a smaller, lighter, rounder-butted gun that gets packed at work...common ones in the rotation are the k-frame snubbies, HK P7 (love that gun), Commander bobtail, Sig 229, and Glock 29. On days off when I can wear a proper belt and holster and baggy shirt, the bigger guns tend to come out more.
For your consideration:
My instructor says I may only have one shot in a self-defense situation, so it needs to be good. At hand gun practice, I see people missing the target entirely with the first shot of a session. That happens without the stress of a fight for life.
When acquiring a grip on a gun, different holsters present the gun differently. Different guns have different places where I need to place the web of my hand. Different guns point at different angles when I instinctively point the gun after the draw. Different guns have different trigger pulls and resets.
Yeah HarryGunner...I'm aware of all that, which is why I admitted in my post that my practice of carrying different guns is often not recommended. I do practice and feel confident with any gun I carry for what its worth. Despite what is "recommended", I suspect that most guys carry different guns/rigs under different circumstances.
This consistency thing is one of the drivers behind my P12/10mm project. I need a smaller gun for certain situations than my full size double stack 1911. The P12 fits the bill, but all the controls, grip angle, manual of arms are the same. Even the relevant parts of obtaining proper grip and draw stroke will be the same. And both can use the same back up magazines.
Anxious to get it done. I expect it will rapidly become a mainstay in the holster.
It is also why a Glock 20/29 makes a good combination.
I'd love something like the SA EMP in 10mm
Practice makes perfect. It is pretty amazing how comfortable you get with something you practice with compared to not. I know that simply sounds sooooooooo obvious, and it is. I guess it's just simply amazing to me how sometimes it's kind of like you ended up being better with something you put the time in with than you would have even guessed from the start. It's always a good feeling when something comes together like that.
This is exactly why I want a G29. I practice with all of my guns, but I have to practice harder and more often with the j-frame. If I don't shoot the G20 for a few weeks, my shooting is still great. If I don't shoot the J-frame, it's an abortion. The trigger on a J-frame is something you need to practice often. Definately an "experts gun", but with practice, anyone can master the snubbie!

My G29sf is what I have on me 90% of the time, loaded with Underwood 180 grain Gold Dots, but occasoinally I will carry a Kimber Ultra Raptor with 200 grain Gold Dots. I think either one will stop a fight in short order, but like the extra capacity of the Glock (11 vs 8 ).

I was issued an M9 in the Marines and probably have close to 100,000 rounds through one. I hadn't touched one from 2003 until a couple days ago. I closed my eyes, brought the pistol on target, and opened my eyes with perfect sight alignment. With all of my pistols, the sights will be close but not perfect.
That actually made me decide to sell my Glock 35 so that I can pick up an M9/92.
And definitely shoot what you carry and don't carry anything you haven't shot.
Case in point. My recent P12-45 that I picked up for a conversion to 10mm. I carried it once before I took it to the range...The day I bought it because in my race to make it to the gun shop before it closed I left my carry gun at home in the safe. So, I bought a box of gold dots and holstered it for the ride home.
On my first range trip I found the extractor was worn. Every other shot it failed to extract.
I also remember well a story one of instructors at the police academy told. Every year in his department they would shoot their carry ammo up during qualification, then be issued new ammo for carry. One year they found that they had a bad lot of ammo. Only about 50% of it went bang. This was the ammo they had been carrying for the whole year. Luckily in the sleepy town they worked, there had been no altercations that had escalated in the year. But if there had been it would have been very bad news.
So, shoot what you carry, both in terms of ammo and guns.
That practice is still being done.Good point.
Most of the departments around here have changed the policy. They now shoot a warm up drill with last years carry ammo, then shoot qualifier with ammo drawn from the new ammo. Any old that is left is given to the officers for their own practice.
The old carry ammo in my dept is used for warm up,then they go to ball, then provide new H/P.ill bring this up no doubt.
I carry either my G19 or my G20, depending on how I need to dress... been carrying the G20 more and more these days.

I don't have any pics of the shoulder harness, but I can describe it:
Mostly, it consists of a single long length of 2"-wide KNITTED elastic. That attaches to the upper rear of the holster (behind my arm), and runs upward along the back side of my shoulder, behind my neck, and then downward along the right side of my chest, then curves under my right arm, then along the lower part of my back, and attaches to the lower rear part of the holster.
Another 2" strap goes from the upper front of the holster, joining that first strap about 1/4 of the way from my neck to the edge of my left shoulder ... the two straps meet at a fairly small angle, slightly aft of the "fall-line" of my shoulder. And there is a small length of 2" strap that connects those two straps, going over my shoulder about 2/3 of the way between my neck and the edge of my shoulder (which supports a small part of the weight of the gun ... but the majority of the weight gets distributed over almost the whole length of that long 2" strap ... that distribution of the load is what makes the gun feel so much lighter than it does with a belt holster).
There are also two 1"-wide braided elastic straps that criss-cross between the forward side of the holster and the part of that long 2" strap that runs vertically along the right side of my chest ... and each of those two 1" straps has a plastic quick-connector (like those used on backpacks, etc) near the center of my chest ... that's how you get the harness on and off. (These criss-cross straps in front of course wouldn't work for an outside-the-shirt holster, because they would be visible ... but they are invisible in the under-the-shirt holster rig, and they keep the gun from flopping around, and snugged in close to the body).

Since I picked up a Gen4 G29 that has been me too but I've noticed that my G20 actually carries more comfortably, despite the extra weight. The G29's shorter slide tends to jab/rub me in uncomfortable places. I currently carry appendix using the RCS Vanguard 2, though, so my thoughts may change if I ever go through with plans to get a Desbiens Gunleather AIWB holster. The VG2 works well enough and is as minimal as can be so I just haven't really felt pushed to use anything else.

IME, you lose a little muzzle flip and gain a little noise, but that's really it. it does take practice to get used to the compensator, but the sight radius is slightly longer than with non-comp guns. I eventually want to do a long slide with a micro dot with the G20, mainly for hunting and so I don't cut up my original slide
I have a G-24C long slide that i used to carry, very easy to shoot, muzzel blast is minamal & is very accurate. Great trigger. Allas!!!! i bought a G-29 so the 24C is now a safe gun. Love my G-29 & carry all the time . Also have a G-21 converted to 10mm with a 5.30" Storm Lake barrel also very accurate but not as nice of trigger as the 24C. This is my woods carry.
Grizz, you could swap the trigger assemblies in the two guns. Then your G29 would have the sweet trigger.
Cool i never thought of that !! :o
