Title: My latest toy - custom 357 Sig BHP
Post by: BCDWYO on July 24 2012 04:23:35 PM MDT
Figured there have to be a few Browning Hi-Power fans in here...thought I'd share my latest toy that I just got back from the gunsmith following some major custom work.  Started out as a BHP in 40 S&W and I got a 357 Sig barrel, added beavertail, stippling, night sights, and new finish, and topped it off with Spegel grips and new leather!  So far 100% reliable with both 357 Sig and 40 S&W and a bunch of fun!  Here's some pics:

Thanks for sharing the pics!  I actually like the look of that pistol a lot.  Usually for looks I like more distinct sharp lines in the design.   But that piece is very rounded in overall general demeanor with few hard-lines/sharp-edges, and I still like it.  Cool.  I also like the blacked out look with the dark brown/red and black grip panels.  Plus to be chambered also in 357 SIG is sweet!  The 357 SIG is one awesome cartridge in my book.  Not compared to 10mm of course.  But all things being relative just the same. ;D

BTW, how many rounds does the mag hold, and what is the barrel length?

The BHP 40 has 10 round mags, and the 357 sig uses the same mags.  The 9 mm BHP (by far the most common chambering) has 13 round mags standard (unless you live in CA or other such states!)  Extended mags are available but the "standard" flush mags are 10 or 13 depending on caliber.

10 round capacity isn't bad.  What about the barrel length?

Nice BHP! I'd like to get some custom work done on a few of mine, but that will have to wait for funding.   Redline the standard barrel length on BHP's are 4 5/8"....

Nice.  I wasn't sure if it was "full-sized" or not.  At 4 5/8", 1350fps from 357 SIG loads that are capable, should be good to go in that barrel.  And that's where the 357SIG shines IMO. 8)

Lovely gun.  The finish looks like some kind of spray finish. What is it?  Cerakote?

The gunsmith called it "polycoat"  He says it is the same finish CZ uses on their guns.  The shop he works out is CZ / Dan Wesson armorer.

Interesting about polycoat.  Should be good to go.

Very nice!

Now I wish I did not get rid of my 40 HP.  It was so horrible.  It would not hit anything.  So I dumped it.

Just goes to show...Never sell a gun.  The only gun I ever sold I don't miss was a Ruger P-series in the early 90's.  Hated that gun.

I never could warm up to those P- series Rugers.

Love their single actions!  ;D and Mark series 22s  ;D

Never much to warm up to IMHO.  Big, heavy, low round count and jam, jam, jam.  At least that describes the one I had.  I learned about stovepipes on that gun.
