Title: Help me rate a 10mm!
Post by: sybo on May 28 2014 04:10:20 AM MDT
As a proud owner of a Glock 29sf, Glock 20, and a Smith 1006, I am looking to add to the stable. I handled an EAA Witness Hunter 6" longslide, and it intrigued me. Can I get some pros and cons from people that actually have experience with one. Also how would ye people of knowledge rate this pistol on a 1-10, 10 being as reliable and accurate as my Glock 20. Thanks to all in advance, Jim aka Sybo

sybo, Welcome to the Forum!  The person you need to enlighten you is Intercooler, the EAA's are what he shoots and test with.  The Hunter is a great gun especially in 10mm.   8)

Jim, I don't have one, so I won't rate.  But I do have a question.

Are reliability and accuracy the only grading criteria?  The Witness Hunter is a pretty different gun from a Glock G20.  Your question would lead me to assume you are cognizant of these differences and the hunter is desirable as long as it is reliable and accurate.

Just wanted to make sure that was your intent, and to call it out specifically to respondents who own Witness Hunter models.

As an aside, I have a Witness full size and a Witness match.  At this point they are as reliable as my G29 is or my G22 was.  I don't have a G20.  My Witness guns have Wolff Springs and have had a fluff and buff.  I run red follower mags in mine without issue, but those mags have caused issues for others.

I also have an EAA match in 10 mm and I think the gun is very reliable. Seems a little more reliable than my 1911 10 mm.
It's pretty new, and I have had zero FTE. only one FTF and that was a  reload that was just a bit too long in the OAL.

It's the top dog in 10mm from EAA! The two-piece guide rod will snap the puny pin they put in it. Easy fix with JB Weld and another pin when it goes. Accurate as you can shoot it and handles 900lb rounds with no problems.

Every 10 owner should have one 6" piece  ;D

This would be a range gun and an occasional hog hammer, feedback anybody? Thanks Intercooler!

No problem! In the 6" version for hunting I don't know of anything that would work better. You can also scope or optic it with a mount off the factory tapped holes.

Or if you have a Glock, you can do this.

If the Glock is a "10" in the accuracy department, the Witness will be around a "13".  The extra sight radius is a plus, the trigger is much better, and the Tanfoglios are made for accuracy.  Given your stated uses, I think the Hunter will deliver!  I have the Limited Pro, not the Hunter, but the similarities across the line makes me quite sure you will enjoy the pistol.

Mine feeds anything, handles weaker to red hot loads with ease, and looks sweet to boot.

Glock is better supported, both as a company and the aftermarket.  EAA are not the best to do business with.  Stuff is expensive and there are precious few alternatives.

Hmmmm, my "Hunter" is a Fusion Firearms long slide 1911. It's really named Hunter, too.

Intercooler, sweet setup you  have there with the eotech. Same goes for shadetree. I used to have a c-more sts back in the day but I went back to iron. I was always so concerned about whacking it on something.
