Any opinions on Kimber 10mm pistols? I've notice no one has mentioned owning one .....I would have thought price, but several members have shown Dan Wesson models or a few others that cost even more. Personally I've heard some say the quality isn't what it once was but I've heard the same about almost everything else. 8)
I have a kimber target in 10mm. I love it. I want to get some new sights for it so it will be more comfortable fir carry. It has shot flawlessly and is very accurate! I was told it was a limited run and only a few thousand were being made...not sure how true that is, but i'm very pleased with mine and i am confident in it's accuracy and reliability.
I don't own one. Just thought I'ld throw in that I can't say I have any real reason for not owning one other than that I don't need one, having the two Glock 10mms I own. I've heard mixed reviews over time. That said, a plus about them is a respectable amount of chamber support, they seem to be a solid enough gun in general and for 10mm within reason, and I've not come across a bad enough beef by anyone to outright shun them.
As for what I have heard, all that sticks in my mind is that sometimes it takes a little bit of fine tuning and breaking in to get them going, which is over my head to some extent as I'm generally not a 1911 guy. Nothing against them, just never got into them. All in all, I see no reason not to own one. Then again others much more in the know may chime in and spell something out I haven't heard yet or simply don't recollect from time past.

Thanks......I read an article in a back issue of Handloader about the same pistol you own and reloading for same. The author thought very highly of the pistol and bought it after the testing was over. Looking at Kimber's website they still make the Target II and the Eclipse II in 10mm. Just wanted to hear some opinions from current owners.
Good guns. Two things hold me back. I like double stack, which expains all the Para's in my safe in various state of conversion to 10mm, and I really don't like front cocking serrations.
If I needed a single stack 1911 on a budget it would definitely be a Kimber.

Well it's your fault. ;D You told me about the article in Handloader and I ordered the back issue. Seriously though, I like the 1911 platform. When I sell the Colt AR I'll be looking for something else.....also looked at the Fushion long slides but know little about Fusion. LW long slide conversion for the Glock seems to be on perpetual back order. The Colt Delta doesn't have a fully supported barrel and the STI and Wilson 10mms are beyond what I'd pay for a hand gun. Oh well, 'a fool and his money'....I'm sure I'll find something. :D
I heard from forum members of other forums about their Kimber 10mm's and they seemed to handle the cartridge well, yes some changed the recoil springs out to extra power to control slide velocities. I'd buy a Kimber if the price was right...However? ???
The Fusion Firearms started out by the fellow "Bob Serva" who was the former president of Dan Wesson...Their product is well built and have considered buying a Fusion may times...one may be in the line up someday! :D
I know you have several of the Smith 10s.......I like them but the prices I've seen on the auction sites for nice ones have gone to ~ 1k. Chances of finding one locally are slim as the gun stores put them on Gunbroker if they get one on trade.
Anyway, someone bought the AR today so I'm in the market......
Dan Wesson, Kimber, Fusion are all great 1911's. I have heard reports of spotty QA at Fusion lately. And the Dan Wessons have tightened up and are fabulous guns.
The Kimber has always been a performer, and leads in price point.
The one 10mm Kimber that I am familiar with belongs to a friend of mine. It has better case support than my Colt and seems just as accurate. It needed a little tuning to get it running but it's flawless now. I would definitely consider a Kimber 10mm.

Any details on what he did to get it running?

It is a fine, fine, firearm! I wish I could afford to own everyone I see for sale. There is no better made 1911, in 10MM, on the market. even at the Grand+ price. I am very tempted to hold onto a NIB Eclipse in 45, for a trade with a person who wants to trade a 10MM eclipes. You know it will show up eventually!
Hey Hey now! The Razorback holds that title ;D
Kimbers are good no doubt and if they were minus the front serations I may have bought one. I also didn't like the plastic piece I heard about at the back or the finish as much as the DW's.
I have no complaints with plastic mainspring housings. Great place to cut some weight from the gun that doesn't matter one bit.
Pretty sure it was Alex Hamilton that said despite all the flak about plastic MSH, he has never seen one break.
I have the eclipse in 10mm I love everything about it. Has a great trigger. I did put a 24lb spring in it for high power loads. it still throws the brass a ways but they all land in the same place. If your looking for a 10mm 1911 I would highly recommend it. 8) My 2 favorite pistols!!

Very nice, and thanks for the reply. Btw, welcome to the website.
Mean while as the smoke rises from the 'gun money' in my pocket.........no Kimbers or Colts, new or used in this area. Even tried a few places out of town. Not a fan of the auction sites as local prices are always cheaper. Never fails, if I had no extra funds they'd be common as dirt. Oh well........ :D
Maybe have your local Kimber dealer order one for you?
I see them BNIB on GunBroker all the time for $1000.

Where's the fun in that? :D The local dealer they list said they haven't been a dealer in five years, Kimber hasn't taken them off their list. Anyway, if I wanted to wait I'd go with a custom gun....... without getting into a pity party I've already had one supposedly Agent Orange related cancer and at my age I don't care much about waiting, usually something else will come up and there goes the extra money. Also I try to buy things that hold value and are easy to sell for my wife if anything happened to me. Exotics or custom guns are a hard to sell around here in the current economic climate.
Given how hard a 10mm Kimber seems to be to find, oughtta be easy to sell. Just give her my contact info :P
LOL. I'll do that: S.Q. Bullet, somewhere out West. ;D
I'll just pick it up sometime when visiting my family in Florida. Looks like about a 3 hour drive from Grandpa's house.
Three hours? Grandpa must be just across the GA/FLA line. :o
Right around Ocala, so maybe four hours.

Extractor crapped. He put in a Wilson Combat 9mm/38 Super extractor and now it runs great.

Ah. Common malady. My Para had extractor issues right after the conversion, but a little more tension fixed it right up.

Not a fan of front cocking serrations myself, and, other things you mentioned, may also be true, but I'll say this, when it comes to accuracy, and reliability, the Kimber cannot be surpassed. Like I mentioned, would love to have the Eclipse, in 10MM. That is one fabulous 1911, and, having one in 10MM, well, let's just say, IMHO, you would have the finest American Made 1911, in 10MM, that money buys! ;)
