Title: ALMOST made one of the biggest mistakes of my life....
Post by: Buckeye 50 on September 24 2014 04:38:50 PM MDT
I have my CCW for almost a year.  I am extremely careful, deliberate and I believe, safe and compliant for Ohio.  I now have a gun for my car - Sig 2022 in .357 sig (1 of 2 magazines FULL).  Soooooooo, the other night my wife of 33+ years and still the love of my life told me she was going to the store for a few quick items.

I say, OK and think nothing of it - until I saw her back my SUV out - YEP, with a fully loaded magazine of Underwood 357 sig XTP's in the back.  It hit me quickly that IF stopped, she did NOT have HER CCW.

The good news is I got to her in time before she pulled away!  Oh......My........God: My heart was pounding, I was out of breath and have thanked the Lord or my Guardian Angel several times since then for alerting me............

So now, I am re-thinking a car gun in lieu of a Concealed Carry on my person.

WoW!!

Pat

This is the primary reason I insisted my wife get her permit with me.  Also applies to stopping by the post office...Any time you might have to leave the gun in the car, possibly with the wife.

Since then state law has changed here and your car is now your castle.  So, in Utah your wife would have been fine with no permit as long as she left the gun in the car.

as crappy as the new gun laws are in co. they left that one alone here and when you're in your car or any car for that matter you can carry concealed on your person or hidden within the vehicle without a permit, as it is considered an extension of your domain. that being said I keep one in every vehicle I own 24/7 and i'm glad I don't have to worry about it.

You also might consider a gun locker for your vehicle.  They're available with combination, key or biometric locks.  They use high strength cable to attach to vehicle in discreet out of way place like under seat.

I also have carry permit and keep weapon in my vehicle at all times (my trusty Glock 20).  A model with biometric lock worked best for me.  Travel a decent amount for work and sometimes places I go strictly prohibit ccw.  Also have kids and wife to consider.

It's gone if somebody with a crowbar or bolt cutters breaks into my truck but it'll protect against run of the mill smash & grab job.

A little added buffer if wife happens to take my truck for a spin (until she gets her ccw) as well.

Unfortunately the druggies and mischievous teens are always ransacking cars around my area.  I don't leave ANYTHING in my car anymore but registration, insurance and burger king wrappers.  I have lost a couple of car rescue knives in the past.

What really toast my hide is that the police don't do anything but fill out a report.  At this point I have camera surveillance of all of the outside of my house.  Since I put up the camera's, my cars don't get hit.

that is what I love about where I live, it is Legal to Carry Concealed without a permit :D

Of course, if you HAVE your CCW, there are places you can go that you can't without, AND, with a CCW you do not have to do the background check every time you buy a firearm. There are also legal ramifications that work in your favor if you do have your CCW and an "issue" arises.

The lack of background check is very nice where I live too.  In fact, I have an FFL that charges me a flat annual fee for unlimited transfers.  I need to buy more guns to make that a better deal. :P
