Title: Went into Dick's Sporting Goods and they carry ammo
Post by: Intercooler on August 05 2012 05:46:55 PM MDT
I didn't know that. They had the standard 9mm, .40, etc... but no 10mm. They had Blazer bulk packs of .22LR for $19.99/525 which is a pretty good deal with no tax or shipping. Also can't get them in WalMart and they have shot great in my 22A so I went for it. The guy asked me if I was an American citizen to which I said YUP. Then he put them in a plastic box for me to take up at check-out. That guy also asked to see my ID and I was an American citizen. Okay... what if I wasn't? I guess they don't sell to you then? More paperwork or something. At any rate as we left I told my Wife what does that prevent? If a non-citizen really wants them they get an American citizen (maybe one who doesn't give a crap) $20 to just walk in and buy them. Kind of dumb I thought!

I don't see anything wrong with that, be it state law or store policy.  It isn't like you have to fill out an application, give up a thumb print, or are limited to one bullet at a time (or one box, but it's the same, really).  They actually passed a law in CA last year to do just that, but the CA Supreme Court overturned it (surprised me).  Now they're screaming foul on bullet buttons..... What next?!?!

I didn't mind it just trying to figure what good it was doing.

Probably none.  But, it's an effort that doesn't cost you, impede you, deny you, or "enable" anyone else.  I don't have any problem with passive accountability.  Nothing wrong with standing up and showing who you are, either.  I have nothing to hide.  However, I don't like big brother looking up my skirt.  It's just none of their business.  I don't "look" like a foreigner, but I might be.  I doubt they'd mistake my age....

I guess I am the odd duck here, but sounds to me too much like "Papers, Comrade".

I don't view the right to life, and corresponding right to defense, as being one that should stop when I cross a national border.  I sure don't like traveling some of the places I have to for work and being disarmed while there...Cough-Columbia-Cough.

I don't have a problem if this is store policy.  Their store, they can set whatever policy they want.  But I do have a problem if it is state law.  That is a law if considered in my state would occasion a few letters as well as a walk over to my state senator and state representatives homes.

I was reading through the threads, and thinking to myself, paper work, showing of drivers license, yea what a PITA. Got to thinking though, I'm not a young pup, and kind of surprised, no one else mentioned this, is, the thing that ticks me off the most about your story, is, the fact that you had to pay$20 for $10 worth of ammo. Just as sure as I am about the price going up, so will the inconvenience to purchase it.
