Title: I used to disregard Glocks
Post by: WMDP on November 21 2014 08:01:01 PM MST
I have always been a .45 fan...  1911s the way to go.  Until I wanted a 10mm and after much research I bought a Glock 20sf just because it seemed to get good reviews, sent it to Robbie Wheaton at Wheaton Arms to do his magic (KKM Barrel, slide cuts, trigger job, stipple the grip, undercut the trigger guard, add Trijicon RMR and grip force adapter)... all I can say is that for the last two months I haven't even wanted to get out the .45s... this thing shoots!  50 yards off hand, not a problem with the RMR...Double Tap 200gr hard cast bullets... here piggy piggy piggy.

Nothing bad about a .45 fan. I am. love my CZ97BD. Actually my favorite pistol. I just take Glock's as AK's of pistols. I think the hopefully upcoming Sig in 10mm will be a homerun. That platform is a natural.

The trigger is the key to me which is why i have so long favored the 1911.... and still do.  But especially for hog hunting I like the 10mm better.... but the trigger job on this Glock is getting close to a good 1911..... close.....

I'm with the OP.  I used to HATE Glocks with a passion.  Then I grew older and wiser!  I'm not a Fan Boy by any means, but it's so much easier to pack a Glock in the foothills of Appalachia when I Elk hunt, or hunting the flatlands at home for deer.

Now that I think about it.  Pistol hunting is what brought back interest in meat harvesting for me!

I was watching some odd channel on TV one night, some years back, and Keith Warren came on a hunting show carrying a Glock 20!  I was in disbelief!  I've been hooked on pistol hunting since.

I think you hit the nail on the head....  I have several 1911s and love them all... and especially my Ed Brown .45... BUT they are heavy and I find myself carrying the Glock a good deal more often because it is so much lighter... that is especially so in CA... where we do not have the freedom to put more than 10 rounds in a mag... so we are not burdened by the weight of the extra ammo that a Glock could carry in the other FREE states....

Glocks don't start getting good until you work on the trigger. It's amazingly easy. Probably why it took me so long to do it!!  8)

Bad - Its not the gun - I have had to switch to using my left eye - right one going bad - but I getting there ( right handed shooting with my left eye ) - the coated bullets are working great ( 200gr HCFP coated - and 200gr XTP HP's ) I have some 220gr coated but haven't tested them yet.
I'm going to order a chrono and go to a outdoor range about 50 miles away and test them this spring in the Hunter and the MechTech - when I get better shooting left eyed.

I don't disregard them. I just don't like them. If they ever make a single model that feels comfortable in my hand, I would consider one. So far, I haven't found one.

I still hate Glocks, but only because they just do not seem to make a model that feels comfortable in my hands. I mean their prices are extremely good, especially on 10mm's. But as long as a 1911 just feels so much more comfortable in my hands, that's what I keep buying.

Now if Gloock Made something that looked like this..... ;)

I too used to not concern myself with Glocks. I was always a 1911 and Sig shooter.

My first Glock was a G19 bought ten years ago and it's still with me and used as a CCW piece on occasion. MY GF has a G19 as does my brother-in-law, and a handful of friends.

The second is the Glock20SF. Still getting used to the pistol and enjoying it.

All of my pistols are SHTF guns that I feel are reliable and good to go. But the two that I can pick up and feel 100% TOTALLY sure of every round firing...

The Glock 19 and my Sig P226 9mm.

Glocks do rock!

I'll just continue to disregard them until I can pick one up and it feels comfortable and natural in my hand. So far I haven't.

I made the "switch" to plastic some 16-17 years ago. I will not give up my 1911's but I carry a Glock or clock copy more often than any other.

Really like my new G29, it will be my winter carry gun. my Shield 40 is just too slim, trim and light for summer carry. Easily concealable in a T shirt and a IMB holster.

My G20 is a favorite, my G23 has been a faithful companion for better then 15 years. I have a G19 for my wife.

Here is my wifes G19

Here is a couple 45's.

Here is two mags from the G23 as fast as I could fire them at 10 yards.

Need to go threw these drills with the Shield and G29.

I believe comfort is paramount when choosing a handgun....triggers, sights and such can be changed/ upgraded.  That being said, I have huge hands and the double stack glock 20 fits perfectly.  I have shot quite a few handguns with an open mind.... I am most accurate with double stack Glocks.

I can appreciate not liking a particular gun for the way it feels.... Thankfully we have a lot of great choices

Bought my first Glock, a Gen 2 G23, in 1994. Now I own six.

I will say, they take a bit of getting used to, especially from being trained on a P7M8.

The two handguns I train with now most are my issued Sig 229 and my two G20's (Gen 3 SF and Gen 4).

Simply said, Glocks are excellent.

It's not the "plastic" that bothers me, it's not the fact they are striker fired. It's the way a Glock feels in my small short fingered hand. A 1911 just feels more natural to me. It's just a matter of personal choice. I don't run around saying a 1911 is better than any Glock. I just say I am more comfortable with a 1911.

Although I DO like this t-shirt!  ;)

I have both the 20 and 29 , both gen 4. I prefer the 29, it conceals like my M&P 40C but has more oomph in the event i run into a black bear. I may actually sell the 20.
