Title: Custum semi-auto barrels...
Post by: Pinsnscrews on December 27 2014 01:45:36 AM MST
Anyone have any ideas on who would be willing to make custom barrels for a semi-auto?

I am looking at buying a "raw barrel" to be machined into a finished barrel. Since I will have over 15 inches of barrel left over from the project, was thinking about having it made to work in a semi-auto. I may have a line on a Springfield XDs .45.  Barsto makes drop in barrels for other models of XD's but. Not for the XDs .45

Thinking it just might make a good EDC as it feels more comfortable in my hand than a Glock. A nice Pocket 10mm ;-)

I'm not sure that BarSto, KKM or others would make what you're looking for... ???  Most raw barrels com with the bore and rifling already machined to a specific caliber so the barrel's caliber will not change.
Good luck locating someone...

I'm still waiting to see if the guy that has started on my barrels for my S&W 10xx guns will ever get to finish them.  He has had things come up and hasn't been able to get back on the CNC machine to complete them...  He has a 100 barrels started, we are all waiting to see if he will ever complete this venture.  :-[  ::)

The barrel blank is bored to .400 bore. .401 groove, it is 1"-1.25" outside diameter depending on which blank I go with. This is an "In the Raw" barrel. All that would need doing is cut down the outside diameter to match the semi auto, ream the chamber and then add the "furniture" such as ramp, locking lugs, etc.

My original thought was to have it machined down to fit a revolver frame, but the deal fell through on the frame.

I here ya, like I mentioned I'm still in waiting, these are some of the pictures of the barrel blanks that are being used to produce the 4 barrels I'm am waiting to be finished.  I am waiting on a 40S&W, 357Sig 4.25" and 357Sig 5" and 9x25Dillon 6" for my S&W 10xx series.

They are being done by a retired aerospace engineer and machinist, who is a S&W 10mm enthusiast, The shop that he was using their machines got some serious contract work, so he didn't have access to the CNC.  He's still trying to gain some machine time.
He didn't take any down payments, so I have nothing invested riding on the project.
He and I e-mail on a regular basis even today...

Are those blanks from Grren Mountain or did he provide the blanks from his own stock?

Funny that I stumbled upon this,

I am looking for someone to do the same thing for me but make a custom barrel for my MP 45c.

I would do this myself, but I don't have the machines. Everyone around here gives me the run around when I tell them what I want to do.

Yea, finding the right shop or persons to do these types of projects is tough.  Companies like Bar-Sto, StormLake and KKM and others could produce them easily as they do their other Barrels.

Believe me, I have been through every one that I can find and everyone turns me down, they won't even entertain a group order no matter the size.

I totally understand, and while I don't push the guy that's doing the barrels I have on order, he and I do continue to communicate almost weekly.  He has said that things are looking good that he can get some CNC machine time to get back on this project.
