Title: Kimber Trigger Pull With A 25 Hammer Spring
Post by: K10 on February 03 2015 09:32:02 AM MST
Can you get a decent trigger pull with a 25 hammer spring? Say, about a 3 1/2" pull? If so, how would you go about it?

I have a 25 lb in my Para and have a decent pull.  I don't have a scale, but it is clean and crisp.

I would take it to a really good 1911 gunsmith and talk to him about my goals.  First step I am sure would be to stone all the mating surfaces smooth and see where that got you.

I suspect that you can, but I'm not sure.  As I recall (when I was trying pretty-much every strength hammer spring), most of the difference was at the bottom of the range, especially between 18 lb and 20 lb.  The trigger-pull didn't increase very fast above 20 lb.

P.S.:  Getting the trigger down to 3-1/2 lb with a 25 lb hammer spring MIGHT require that the disconnector leg of the sear spring be set too weak.  It might also be fine, but be sure to test (with a dummy cartridge) for hammer-follow when chambering the first round (WITH the grip-lever compressed).
