Title: Guncrafter Industries 10mm longslide ... First hundred rounds ... w/ pics
Post by: Denver1911 on February 07 2015 10:38:56 AM MST
Took my first 10mm to the range.  I picked it up yesterday and NEEDED to spend some quality time with it at the range.  Went to the local indoor place with a box of DoubleTap and a box of HPR (both 180 grain flat-point and listed at 1250 fps from a 5-inch gun).  I used the two Tripp magazines that came with it.  For the first outing, I wanted everything to be controlled (factory rounds and manufacturer-supplied magazines).

The first fifty (a mix of the two boxes) functioned flawlessly.  Most were on target too.  Here is 50 rounds at ten yards.  Not trying to be accurate, just shooting to get the feel for my new gun.

I then shot a five-shot group from each box for accuracy.  Both groups shot off-hand at ten yards after just firing fifty rounds of 10mm.  Any holes not touching are the shooter, not the gun.

Finishing off the two boxes of cartridges, I had two empty mags fail to lock the gun back.  I'm guessing a little limp-wristing on my part.  100 rounds of 10mm is more than I was up for.  One time the slide locked back on a nearly-full mag.  Not sure what caused that.

And, of course, the obligatory dirty gun shots:

Next trip, I'll take some of my first 10mm reloads.  Next trip ... hmmm ... when is that? NOT SOON ENOUGH  ;D

And a shout-out to Tractus Specialty Arms for making it all come together.

There are two on Gunbroker right now that appear to be available for $3800 - $4270.

I ordered mine and waited 7 or 8 months.  The nickel-boron finish was a substantial adder, but I was still able to get it for less than $4k shipped to my FFL.  Check with Greg at Tractus Specialty Arms for his best pricing if you order.

Nice!  What kind of chamber support does it have?  How did your brass look?

Was that grease or oil that was in this picture;

Was that grease or oil that was in this picture;

Fully supported chamber, ramped barrell.

No bulges on the brass.  The HPR stuff has some flattened primers.  The DoubleTap looked great.  Shot my first 10mm reloads this morning.  180 grain Hornady HAP over 8.0 - 8.8 grains 800x in 0.2 grain increments.  It's cold, so I did not go outdoors and take the chrony.  So, by seat-of-the-pants, the 8.0 - 8.4 felt weaker than the 1250 fps factory rounds.  The 8.6 felt similar, and the 8.8 felt heavier.  All were different in feel than the factory rounds.  Despite being the same bullet weight, the factory rounds had more of a snap and the reloads more of a push.  Slower powder?  There was substantial muzzle blast from the 800x.  Looked like  flecks of powder were ejected still burning.  From a six-inch barrell, I found that a bit disturbing.  Brass was not bulged, but primers were just a tad flat, but not enough to worry me.  Shown in the photo from bottom to top 8.0 - 8.8 grains.

Was just dirty oil in the pic.

He-he ... Not my trick.  I stole it too.  A sharpie works, but not as good as some things I've seen.

Denver1911,

Do you have a chronograph?  Would be interesting to see what you are gaining with that extra inch.

Hey. You mark your cartridges with magic markers like me.

Sometimes I get carried away.
