Title: Official 2016 Election Thread
Post by: Patriot on March 07 2015 06:35:25 AM MST
To keep the forum from being overloaded with 2016 election threads, let's try to keep the discussion in this thread. I'll start us off with some poll updates. The newest Quinnipiac Poll shows Scott Walker in the lead for the republican nomination with 18%, and Jeb Bush at 16%.

However, Jeb Bush became the clear frontrunner if Scott Walker doesn't run.

The bad news for republicans? Every poll seems to show a Clinton victory over any republican nominee. The Quinnipiac poll showed Clinton was favored 48% over Walker's 38% and Clinton favored 45% over 42% for Bush.

Clinton lead all democrats with 56%.

Hilarious Clinton was also favored over McStain, but Obozo won.

California is lost, so it doesn't matter who I vote for president.

I know. I left California and never looked back. Moved to Seattle, but a bunch of liberal Californians followed shortly after with the tech boom. Washington then became a liberal toonfest. I finally had to leave there too. Now I'm in Florida. Gun laws are good here, for now anyway.

Hillary Clinton got more votes than Obama in 2008. She lost caucuses similar to the Electoral College. The Hillary spread will evaporate and she will win by a 4-5%.

Walker cannot win Ohio a big union state in a presidential year. Without OH or FL, the GOP cannot win. However she can win without both.

That's why I think Jeb has the best shot. He can win Florida and Ohio. He can also win the moderate votes in every state except maybe CA and NY. That won't make true conservatives happy but if the alternative is Hillary I predict they will change their tunes.

Visual image of a democracy.

Imagine a large broken down rust bucket, with a bunch of whiners in the back seat looking to get a free ride, deciding which person in the back seat will get a chance to drive the broken down car.

Jeb has no shot.

Clinton left a economy that everyone did well with.

Both Bush's left disasters.

Thats all 2016 will be about, plus Jeb takes a lot of negatives away from her like Mitt did with Obama.

The GOP needs to find a non elected businessman or general to have a chance.

Clinton left a balanced budget that if Bush left alone, would have this country DEBT FREE in 2012. Bush decided on 2 tax cuts instead and said it would end the debt in 2007.

How that turn out.

Lets talk about Fannie and Freddie, a GOP bill could not get out of a GOP senate subcommittee.

Bush fixed Clintons mistakes yeah thats it, Jeb needs to run on that instead of this.

TODAY

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush offered a strenuous defense for a pathway to legalization for immigrants in the country illegally at a summit in Iowa on Saturday.

"Immigrants that are here need to have a path to legal status," Bush said. "Nobody I know has a plan to deal with illegal immigration other than to just say they're going to be rounded up and taken away."

Exactly, Bush warned about the Fanny and Freddy thing in his budget. The congress didn't listen. t was documented in that link I posted.

"The Administration warned of the risk that government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac posed to America's financial security beginning in 2001.  President Bush's first budget warned that "financial trouble of a large GSE could cause strong repercussions in financial markets."  In 2003, the Administration began calling for a new GSE regulator.  Despite resistance from Congress, President Bush continued to call for GSE reform until Congress finally acted in 2008 to provide the additional oversight the President requested five years earlier.  Unfortunately, the reform came too late to prevent systemic consequences."

The congress screwed it up, not Bush.

A Republican House and Senate.

Expanding Home Ownership

"This Administration will constantly strive to promote an ownership society in America. We want more people owning their own home. It is in our national interest that more people own their own home. After all, if you own your own home, you have a vital stake in the future of our country."

- President George W. Bush, December 16, 2003

The Accomplishments

Increasing Homeownership

The US homeownership rate reached a record 69.2 percent in the second quarter of 2004. The number of homeowners in the United States reached 73.4 million, the most ever. And for the first time, the majority of minority Americans own their own homes.
The President set a goal to increase the number of minority homeowners by 5.5 million families by the end of the decade. Through his homeownership challenge, the President called on the private sector to help in this effort. More than two dozen companies and organizations have made commitments to increase minority homeownership - including pledges to provide more than $1.1 trillion in mortgage purchases for minority homebuyers this decade.

President Bush signed the $200 million-per-year American Dream Downpayment Act which will help approximately 40,000 families each year with their downpayment and closing costs.

The Administration proposed the Zero-Downpayment Initiative to allow the Federal Housing Administration to insure mortgages for first-time homebuyers without a downpayment. Projections indicate this could generate over 150,000 new homeowners in the first year alone.
President Bush proposed a new Single Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit to increase the supply of affordable homes.

The President has proposed to more than double funding for the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP), where government and non-profit organizations work closely together to increase homeownership opportunities.

The President proposed $2.7 billion in USDA home loan guarantees to support rural homeownership and $1.1 billion in direct loans for low-income borrowers unable to secure a mortgage through a conventional lender. These loans are expected to provide 42,800 homeownership opportunities to rural families across America.

You act like those things Bush wanted were bad. More minorities owning homes? That's bad to democrats. Democrats can't have minorities owning homes and all that. They want them in low income housing communities, giving jobs to more government employees to run them.

No SEC enforcement that cratered the economy.

Who are you going to bet on? A Bush or Clinton economy? Hillary crushes him and wins Florida.

I would never vote for Clinton, and he didn't do anything great anyways, but I do remember $1/gal gasoline. Clinton sunk a few nails in this countries coffin when he allowed China to freely trade with the U.S. He put a lot of people out of business.

Bush's 0% FED loans and tax cuts sank me.

I made less under Clinton, but had more. I made even less under Reagan, and had still more than I had under Clinton.

Yeah Mike, I don't value gun rights. I only own about 8 long guns, 30 handguns and before my kids learn to drive they need to be proficient in a rifle and shotgun. Yes, my kids know how to operate a rifle and shotgun before they get their drivers licenses.

But since I don't approve of mounting a .50 on the roof of my pickup, I don't value gun rights.

Keep posting Mike looking forward to debating you.

How about being able to own or buy new guns or magazines that hold more than 10rnds?  Saying how many guns you own gives you no cred...  being willing to throw others rights away (specifically gun rights) because you don't think they need them is despicable.

Why wouldn't you approve of a M2HB on the roof?  Just your pickup's roof or anyone's pickup?

That's not really a big deal.  It is the responsible thing to do, something many kids can do by age 10.

I'd vote for Jim Webb....but he has little chance of getting the Dem nomination. Their controlling group is more far left. The Rep power brokers are all in for more big government, so their candidate is Jeb. If it's Clinton-Bush as the two to chose from I'll sit this one out for the first time in my adult life.

I don't get it. I keep seeing this from "gun owners." Any vote for any GOP guy, including Jeb Bush, is a vote for gun rights. A non vote is a vote for Hillary. And probably a return to the Clinton gun ban.  :o

That's the thing. Abortion is a dead issue. It's never getting overturned. Gay marriage is probably going to be made legal nationwide by the supreme court. It's a dead issue. The majority of the country support both. Deporting all of these illegals isn't going to happen. There isn't enough money in the budget to handle that case load. Jeb Bush is the type of republican that can get elected in this current America. He supports gun rights, did well with the Florida economy. That might be the best bet right now. A far right candidate will not win right now. Someone in the middle is needed. Jeb Bush is that person.

If only the voters realized how much power they give away by worrying about who pundits think is electable... they play you for fools.

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

The great recession had very little to do with Bush. He continued and expanded on the Freddy and Fannie policies that Clinton started. Clinton expanded the bill Jimmy Carter (a democrat) signed into law to help poor minorities get loans (Community Reinvestment Act). Bush inherited that. Additionally, Clinton signed the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act which allowed investment banking and regular banking to no longer be separate. Regular banks started playing the stock market with people's cash, and when they went to withdraw their money, it wasn't available. Yes, that was Clinton and the congress working together. Bush inherited that too. Bush just happened to be President when these massive bank failures took place. Wall street took advantage of Clinton's policies, and after Bush became president the whole thing nearly collapsed.

And the Commodity Futures Modernization act, signed into law by Clinton, this bill removed oversight on derivatives by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Then you have NAFTA. Signed by Clinton as well. Tons of American businesses laid off American workers and moved to foreign countries. American car companies opened factories in Canada and Mexico for cheaper labor.

Everything that Bush gets blamed for was signed into law by Clinton. Bush was just in the unfortunate position of being president when all of these things starting crumbling the economy.

But don't get me wrong. It was a GOP congress that passed the bills that Clinton signed. But it wasn't Bush.

Most economists agree that it takes years for economic policies to have an effect. The policies of Reagan kicked in to make Clinton look good. Clinton's policies kicked in and it made Bush look bad. Bush's policies have started working and Obama looks good. Now the next president will suffer through the results of Obamacare and the Obama disaster.

Elective War with Iraq another great idea.

But go ahead and blame Clinton I am sure the electorate will agree with you when Hillary is sworn in.

That's a whole different issue. You said Bush was to blame for the recession. I showed you how bills Clinton signed, not Bush, caused the recession. Now you've changed your game, now bringing up blah blah talking points about the national debt because you don't understand the difference between the two.

I get it. You live in NY so you love some liberalism. Cool. Enjoy your high taxes and restrictive gun laws.

Personally, I find very little that I agree with democrats on lately. They are leading the charge of the wussification of America. They are against American exceptionalism. They cancel our military programs. Decommission our navy ships. Replace our military leaders with puppets that say they don't need a strong military. The cities they run are cesspools. On the list of the top 25 most dangerous cities in America in 2012, all except one are run by democrats over the last 25 years. I can't find any good in the democratic party at all lately.

I have a brother that is in the electrical union, and he sees what the union bosses tell them, not what is happening in the real political arena.  He's swears up and down Bush screwed the country...not taking the Jimmy Carter and Slick Willy Clinton acts into the equation.  The Government wrecking the working taxpayers and giving to those that are on the government dole, will never pay back or become a prosperous via work to be a taxpayer and replenish the system!  So they will never break the cycle of government slaves!

I hate getting in to politics, on the forum because it never leads to any good.  But I will say this current Money Spending administration has placed the country in a serious situation.  It will be a disaster for who ever takes the next seat of the POTUS.  The actions of the current POTUS could eventually lead us into a civil war or WWIII if the USA suffers the economic collapse which seems to be on the horizon! ??

Guys;

I have lived my whole life in Columbus, Ohio and I sincerely believe Walker CAN win Ohio.  The entire state is not union - mostly the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area.  Pretty much the rest of the state is Republican (wish it were Tea Party).

The biggest problems Republican candidates will have here in Ohio is our stupid fuc%$#g' Republican governor (John Kasich), who went after the "golden unions" when first elected - that is the teachers, police, firemen.  He lost that battle soundly but was re-elected last year anyway.  PLUS, he did that ONLY after exempting ALL elected and appointed officials.

The person who positions themselves as far away from the Dems as possible has the best chance.  This "centrist" crap is a loser and the dems know and love it (McCain, Dole, Romney were ALL that way).

Yes Patriot, American Exceptionalism is talking smack and elective war.

Bush is 100% responsible for the economic collapse 8 years into his term, the voters thought so in 2008 and 2012. The day Obama was sworn in we were losing 750,000 jobs a month and we had 10% contraction. In fact when there is a Democrat president, they create more jobs than Republican.

The GOP failed at Family Values, Foreign Policy and Economics, and their gameplan is to go back to the same exact stuff.

What kind of man keeps backing those that failed him?

Ahhh, Union  talking points in the morning....., in the afternoon...... and in the evening  ::)

We understand if you vote for your financial best interest; Bought and paid for.

The thing is all the welfare junkies, the government employees, union zombies....  Pretty soon they will ALL be bought and paid for.  That is the day freedom dies.  RIP!

Webb isn't anti-gun. Annapolis graduate and combat Marine officer in Vietnam. 'Born Fighting' is an interesting book he authored on Scots-Irish in America....he's also written several others, not one of which is ghost written drivel intended only for self promotion. Granted he is a Dem but far apart from the lefty-wacko wing of the party. But he'll never get the nomination.....

I don't think polls this early mean anything one way or the other. Clinton may not be the candidate this time either. In 2012 she was supposed to be a lock and ....well, wasn't. The off year elections gave the majority in the Senate, and a stronger majority in the House to the Republicans. And what did they do with it?.....caved in their first test over funding for Homeland and current immigration policies. Those policies were what many voted against in the last off year election.

There will probably be a few surprises in store before we know who the nominee of either party. So far I like Walker....Jeb or Christie not so much. Anything would be better that what we have now. ;)
