Title: Is there a standard definition for, "heavily armed?"
Post by: Buckeye 50 on September 29 2015 01:13:28 PM MDT
A friend of mine here in Ohio said the thought if you had high capacity magazines alone you needed to identify yourself as heavily armed.  He wasn't sure, but that got me thinking about whether there is a standard definition or qualifier for being, "heavily armed?"

Just curious as several of my handguns are "high capacity" such as the Glock 20 with 3 15 round mags, same with FNX 45.

Thanks,

Pat

A Glock 20 with 15 round magazines is "standard" capacity. Less than that is reduced capacity.

If you are at a nudist convention, being armed with a sling shot could be considered "heavily armed". It's a relative term, and you can't make sense out of politically correct definitions.

I would say bazooka, mortar or some kind of anti-tank or anti-aircraft gun would count.  I might be persuaded that it depends on context.  Swimming and the local YMCA with an AR-15 might count.

Seriously, there is no legal definition of which I am aware.  Wouldn't matter anyway.  There is a clear definition for an assault rifle, but the media applies the label to any gun the are scared by, which is often all of them.

Heavily Armed: has a weapon or object that could be used as a weapon.

According to the media, any person with a gun is heavily armed, but it usually means a person with more than 1 gun and more than 1 magazine. A basic combat load with a sidearm would make a person mega heavily armed.
