Title: 10mm Long range accuracy
Post by: wifecallsmegrumpy on September 29 2012 02:58:07 AM MDT
Tuning up some long range loads for the IHMS competition and shot this 100 mtr target using the 10mm STI Perfect ten. It was a rested group but still a good result in my book. Ignore the smaller hole it's a recycled target, but I put five on target with a good group of four.

Shooting a 180 grain TC coated lead bullet from Westcastings over a stiff load of bluedot.

Nice shooting Grumpy!!!  STI makes a fine gun. Especially in the "Perfect Ten"! If i had the funds for it i would love to have either it, or the Wilson Combat Hunter. Two of the sharpest 10mm Auto pistols out there IMO.

Well done! That's some good shooting, and shows not just a great gun, but some good load development too.

That's great! More people need to know that the 10 can reach out there with good results.

That is really cool.  About a year ago I tossed a magazine from my Para at a 100 yard target.  Kept all but 2 of 15 on an 8.5X11 paper off a rest.

And about a year before that we set some milk jugs of water out at 100 steps.  I got 4/5 with the first 7 shots standing, shooting my Witness Elite Match.  Finished the mag but never got the 5th one.

That is one of the best things about the 10mm...flat shooting.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.  I'll try to find some of the 25 mtr targets that I kept and get another pic.

Grumpy, if you are still watching, I'd like to say that is some good shooting.  I'd be interested to know what ammo you were using and what kind of hold over did you need to get on target?

Hey Bozz, yeah knocking around still. Haven't shot the 10 in  awhile as I got a 1970 S&W model 41 that rocks, plus a new addition to the family has kept me home bound and up to my ears in nappies and bottles.

From memory the load was 180TC coated lead using a stout load of blue dot.  ::) In terms of hold over, I was using the red dot (burris fastfireIII) so I just wound it up till it was on paper so I couldn't tell you, but expect it's dropping in the order of 6-9 inches from my 25 yrd zero.

My longslide with rmr I zero at 25.  At 100 it is about 4-5 inch low.

With irons that are spot on at 25 I can routinely pop milk jugs at 100 if I aim for the top of the jug.  That is in agreement with a 4-6" drop.  My hit rate is generally about 40%

Good shooting there, man! I know it can be done, too, as I've done it a number of times with both my fusion long slide 1911 10mm and my G40 MOS, both at 100y.... Both on video, as well. :)

Fun stuff!!

Yep, that's good shooting.  I struggle to shoot that size group with my AR and 2MOA red dot.
