Title: Lead loads...
Post by: cwlongshot on January 01 2016 04:35:57 PM MST
Is anyone using 231 for 1050fps range loads in the 10MM?

I have decided to use my G20 for a couple steel matches and looking for a good med powder loading.

OOH yea, kinda useful information huh...  :o I have 155's and 175, 180 & 200's. Thinking 180's ... 155 get vel too high and wont print anywhere near the regular carried ammo...

The 200's I have shot before and they are fine, but quick second third shots are hampered...  I dont really expect to be real competitive as most use light springs and loads. (Steel just needs to be hit) but using this are trigger time just shooting against myself mostly...

I loaded up some with Bullseye and some with 231 will shoot tomorrow...

Hello
I've found that any given bullet will react differently with any given powder.  Bullseye works great with the LEE 175 TC bullet, but not so well with the others. While 231 worked well with the RCBS 200gr bullet, it didn't fair so well elsewhere..  Blue Dot seems to work with anything so far, especially with the 200gr bullet.

There are a lot of other options out there where powders are concerned that work well.

Lyman always lists the 'potentially most accurate load' which sometimes is the case, sometimes not.  The latest Lyman Cast Bullet Manual is a good source for cast bullet data.

Nowadays there is of course the issue of finding powders..

Anyway, for what it's worth, that's what I've come up with so far..

Winchester lists 5.8 grains of 231 with a 180 grain JHP delivering 1050 fps.  Sounds like just your medicine.  They say start with 5.2 and work up.

Thanks for posting the targets RDub.

Looks like Blue Dot and Unique did well with the 200gr RCBS.

I loaded 5.5, 5.7 and 6.0. All shot well enough, but did nt feed well in my tighter Lone Wolf barrel... They fed better in the KKM which is odd as its a shade tighter... fed like s&%T thru a goose in a stock glock barrel...

Gonna adjust the taper crimp and try 6.0 again.
