Title: Used Glock 29... should I?
Post by: s0nspark on October 09 2012 11:08:51 AM MDT
I was wandering through a local pawn shop at lunch and stumbled across a used Glock 29SF (Gen3) and am sorely tempted... It has barely been shot and comes with a Crimson Trace lasergrip but no box and only one mag with a Pearce (?) +2 baseplate. They wanted $580 plus tax but were willing to do $575 out the door... not the greatest price I guess but given the lasergrip, not terrible.

I really really really want a Glock 29 again and have been trying to hold off for a Gen4, as I really prefer that grip based on my Gen4 G20... but this does have me thinking...

Jump or wait? Or jump and jump again when the Gen4s are readily available? :-)

If you are going to spend money an such a laser sight anyway...eg. it is a must have, then this is a better than average deal.

If you would not otherwise spend money on the sight system, then it is not a good deal.

Well, I really wasn't planning to get a crimson trace... and, really, I really want the new grip and larger mag release of the Gen4. I think I will continue to hold out... Besides, it basically comes with no mags as the +2 extender seems to be a hack - they aren't listed as available for the G29. Oh well...

The G29 bug bit hard though - I hope I run into a Gen4 soon! ;-)

Personally I would jump on it, the Gen4 isnt all that (IMHO)

Thats a fair price esp considering the laser. If I saw it, It would already b in the safe...  :o ;D

It seems to be a fair deal for the OTD price mentioned... ;)

Does anyone know if there is an updated Glock RSA for the Gen3 29? I read somewhere about someone buying a new one that came with a steel guide rod instead of the usual polymer... details were scarce though.

I am still tempted by this. I could someone stipple the grip and I'm sure that would meet or exceed my experience with the Gen4 grip...

I think you are wise to wait for a better deal.  While the sum of the cost of the parts makes it look like a good deal, that does downhill fast if one of the expensive parts (Laser grip) has no value/appeal to you.  It becomes a way to justify spending the money right now.

I got my 29 for $425 cash with True Glo fiber-optic + glo in the dark sights, two 10 round mags with +2 pads and a 15 round mag.  Came in the box with all the cleaning parts.  Only evidence of use was a scratch on the slide plate, which I replaced.  It had all the features I wanted (fiber optic night sights) and none I didn't (accessory rail).

Good luck in your search.

Well, you are right. I am so eager to get a G29 that I think I've been trying to talk myself into this... I know I'll be happier if I wait for what I really want. :-)

Did you ever use the +2 baseplates? Any comment on how well they worked? The anecdotal evidence I've seen suggests they can really compromise reliability...

Patience... rewarded! :-D

I may finally have a line on a G29 Gen4... a friend is buying one to see if he likes it. (He is a big fan of .45) Anyway, he is on the fence about 10mm and told me if he decided to sell it he'd give me first dibs on it.
