Title: Looking for someone with a 10mm reamer
Post by: larryh1108 on February 09 2016 05:35:17 PM MST
Hi, I bought a 1911 barrel chambered in 10mm 4 or 5 years ago for a future build. I finally got around to the build and when I tried to chamber the first round (factory 10mm) the gun would not go into battery. Upon closer inspection, the round was not fully inserted into the chamber... it stuck out about 1/2 the rim thickness. I figured I had a bad round and removed the barrel and tried 10 more factory rounds. No go. They all stuck out enough to keep it from going into battery. I then dropped them all into my S&W 10mm barrel and they fit perfectly. I then fired them all in the S&W and they all fired perfectly. I dropped a 40S&W round into the problem barrel thinking it was really a 40S&W barrel (it is stamped 10mm NM). The 40S&W fell all the way in, too far, so the barrel is not cut for 40S&W. Bottom line is I need the barrel reamed for 10mm.

I contacted several gunsmiths in the area (Durham, NC) and all said it was a short chamber but they did not have a 10mm reamer. So, I am asking the 10mm community. Does anyone here have the tools to make my barrel spec? I can mail the barrel with payment and return shipping to get this barrel up and working. If I can't find anybody then I have this beautiful 10mm 1911 with no barrel. Thanks!

I have one but it is currently on loan to Mars guns.  I am not a gunsmith so even if I had it I would not work on your gun.  I don't know what Steve's schedule is these days.  You can contact him via the Mars guns website.

There is also a guy in Ohio that does finish reaming.  If you search 9x25 here you will find a link or contact info.

Try Hunter Customs, remember reading on one forum where he reamed a .40 to 10mm for someone.

You can check with Mr. Van Schneider, he has done some work for a few of us.  He did a 9x25 Dillon final reaming for me!

Van Schneider.  That is the guy in Ohio.

You can also rent them.

No reason you can't finish ream it yourself by hand.

This forum is THE 10mm forum. This place is awesome! I've done a little post reaming cleanup, never had to ream for depth.

WELCOME!
