I built a 9mm AR carbine recently from various parts available on the internet. I originally didn't want to spend over $600 total. So far I have $850 without sights. Add an extra $250 for a Busnell 1-4x24 TDL scope and good 30mm mount, and I am almost at twice the cost I wanted to pay.
My impression of the 9mm AR Carbine: If I were to do it again, I would not waste my time and money on an 9mm AR Carbine. Mine constantly jams. Sometimes the magazine drops out after every shot; both the ProMag and ASC magazines. The velocity for a 125 grain FMJ is about 1450 fps. That is about the same as a 357SIG round from my 6" G20 conversion barrel
On the positive side, when it works, it is extremely fun to shoot. With light loads it sounds almost like a silenced 22LR: No ear protection required. It is accurate and cheap to shoot.
A friend of mine has a PSA 9mm carbine that works flawlessly.
In my best whiney voice, "But, I want oneeeee."
I have several AR'S in various calibers and since I keep a good stock of 9mm ammo on hand (GSSF) it sorta makes sense, for a defense gun around the farm.
My wife would probably shoot all my ammo up.
I was wondering about the cost, in the end
That is more than I expected as well.
And if you trouble shoot and try to repair, the cost goes up even more.
I had a few problems with 300 blk. Everyone is an expert and had different suggestions but I worked through them.
I suspect there are a lot of guns out there with problems....

My blackout has a limited number of rounds through it so far. Couple hundred maybe. During that time I have only had one issue, and it was a doozy. Brass wedged in the chamber and I had to use a dead blow orange hammer to get the action open. I wasn't the one shooting it, and I don't know what the shooter did before they called me over. No issues since.
I was all set to build a 9mm AR. once I sat down and added up the costs, I decided it was too expensive for something that was really just a toy. :( so instead I bought my Witness 10mm. :D a friend has a Colt 9mm carbine and we have put lots of rounds thru it with few problems. it ate my 124gr cast reloads without a hitch.
sqibullet - I have had that same problem with my 300 black Out. my cause was some out of spec. brass v.s. a tight chamber. I keep a short piece of 2x4 handy. some AR s have tight chambers. My 300 BLK AR pistol has the tight chamber. my 16" 300 BLK carbine eats the rounds that choke the pistol & the Mini 14 with no problem.
I can only guess mine was out of spec brass as well. I have had no issues since.
do you have a "Sheridan Gauge"? all the problem rounds failed the Sheridan.
I don't.
But....The round was pretty banged up by the time I got it out of the gun. I don't have a way to tell if ex post facto the failure was due to initally faulty ammo, or by the ride it got while clearing the rifle.
I bought on for Palmetto that has been flawless. It was purchased as a complete rifle and came with one 32 Rd mags. I bought the colt style as I read the Glock style has problems with bolt holding open on last Rd and FTF and FTE issues.

The Glock lowers don't have a bolt hold open as far as I know.

All of the Glock mag carbines I've run across that offer a LRBHO have the mechanism in the upper.
Quartercircle10 lowers offer LRBHO. It's a glock mag lower. I have large frame version with RMW Extreme upper. Works most of the time.
