Title: Academy Sports and the hunt for 10mm
Post by: Blades on June 12 2016 08:18:33 AM MDT
Our Academy Sports opened in Fayetteville, NC on Friday. I stopped by yesterday to check the ammunition selection. They had plenty of the regular stuff, saw a box of .38 Super, and was leaving because they didn't have 10mm. Then something caught my eye:

and then I saw one more box of 10mm:

I bought the Critical Defense. I can get 10mm FMJ from Defender Ammunition in Raeford, NC for $20.00, so I didn't buy the Remington. I did the survey from the store receipt and complained because the two different boxes of 10mm where in two different locations. They stocked the ammunition by the color of the box, or something. Not sure. There could have been more 10mm that I didn't see.

Here is the .38 Super:

They mailed out $10 off coupons, but mine was thrown away on accident. If I can get another one I'll buy another box of Critical Defense, or maybe I'l find something different on my next visit.  :)

The Hornady is a good carry round. The $35 price for the Remingtons is insane. This is why people do not by 10mm's. They see $35 a box on the shelf and think all the ammo is expensive. The Sellior ammo is $18 and is a stronger round than the Remington.

The big box stores do us no favors.

Good to hear about the Hornady. I have a magazine of it, and my second magazine is HPR 200 grain XTP's. I haven't tried the Sellior ammunition yet, but I have tried the PPU, and it was weak. I plan to buy my plinking ammunition from Defender Ammunition.

The S&B is good stuff a little smoky but worth it for the price. Runs about 1160 a tad better than Remingtons.

Went to Academy Sports today coming back from Defender Ammunition and found another 10mm round:

Didn't buy any since I purchased Defender Ammo:

If anyone is looking they are loading .357 Sig ammunition.
