I didn't realize I had 20 different ones on hand. I kind of wonder if it's worth it testing say a 180gr XTP over just at a different speed? I can see some of these are unique never tested before which would be cool. Post your response of what you feel is or isn't worth it below. A couple I can't even ID the bullet as they are specific.
For curiosity,Prvi 180 jhp and UW 155 XTP.
I will send him those with the BCSP's, 220's, Razorbacks and Precision Cartridge. Don't know if the others are worth doing. Trying to think what tnoutdoors9 won't do.
I am interested in the Underwood 165gr Gold Dot and 200gr XTP... especially if they could be tested out of a Glock 29.
If anyone has links to other gel tests of Underwood ammo I would love to check them out...
The 165 hasn't been done but the 200 XTP has a decent amount of videos.

That 200XTP looks like the one I recovered from a nice buck...it was shot from 45 cal muzzle loader in a sabot over volumemetric 100 gr measure of Triple Seven. Starting velocity was 2000 fps but struck the deer at 130+ yards and recovered under the hide on the far side. Hornady bullet opened up and rolled back on itself, expanded to .700" widest .640" narrowest, length from mushroom to base of the bullet .480", retained weight was 162 grains.

WOW! thats pretty good for a bullet that is "designed" for 1200fps max (according to Hornady)
gofastman, At 130yds down range target impact, the velocity for a bullet fired @ 2000 fps with a coefficent of 0.19 would be close to 1450 fps with a time in flight of 0.2649 seconds.
I've never understood AT ALL, IN ANY WAY, where Hornady is coming from in giving the .400 caliber 200 grain XTP a velocity range of 700-1200 fps.
In my wildest imagination I can't even begin to guess what criteria they were considering to make such a nonsensical limitation for that bullet. I personally think they gave it little thought at all and considered that since 1200 fps would be about the fastest velocity anyone would be shooting it from a 10mm that they just arbitrarily labeled it at that and went on doing whatever else it is they do.
CLEARLY after many many many many examples of use, in something like Whitetail Deer, there is no reason it isn't good on up to AT LEAST 1500 fps.
For this particular case the bullet started out at a claimed 2000 fps. And for that bullet it means that at 100 yards it would still be traveling at around 1640 fps, and at 150 yards it would still be around 1480 fps, according to ballistics tables.
Having seen plenty of other examples of what the 200 grain XTP has done in the past, I don't find it surprising at all, but rather expected.
Think about it.....we know of 135gr Nosler bullets effectively taking deer at much higher velocities.....then a 200 XTP sucks beyond 1200 fps?!? Whatever.
I guess I see it as Hornady basically saying they have tested are are comfortable with saying it will work in X-Y range. It may work well beyond that envelope, they just haven't tested it enought to vouch for that performance.

I gotta say it will take me a while to get to the Prvi load. I love their .223/5.56mm ammo but other peoples' chrono results put it at about .40 S&W velocity. I'm kinda "meh" on it. Not to say I won't test it. I'm happy to shoot anything and grateful for Intercooler's donation to the cause, just don't look for it any time soon.
The 180 gr Corbon BCSP (bonded core soft point) will be next. After that I'm pretty interested in the 155 gr XTP, too. I'd also like to do more comprehensive tests on the most promising loads. If there is a particular bullet/powder hand load combination you'd like to see, let me know and hopefully I can get around to it. In between some of the 10mm tests I'd like to test some .223/5.56mm loads also so I'll be busy at least until it starts getting hot again.
Can this forum support a poll? If so, maybe Intercooler can take the top recommendations and put them in a poll and I'll just go in order of the poll results... until I get distracted by something shiny.

Everything I have seen on the PRVI Partizan is it just flat out sucks. Most of the time it doesn't even expand (water tests) but we will see!
Not at all. I think it's useful to hear suggestions and then poll for the top suggestions.

Also, I know this is a 10mm forum but I'm also going to be doing other tests. Please let me know what sort of bullets and loads you'd like to see tested. I'd like to focus mainly on cartridges or loads that don't get much, if any, formal testing.

I want to get through some more tests with the JHPs before doing the hard cast but I've got an idea to lengthen the gel block and hopefully catch the bullet. I can go to Home Depot and pick up the smallest diameter concrete mold they have, cut it in half, stick a trash bag in each half, reinforce the bottom with duct tape, then pour the gelatin in. Let them stand in the refrigerator. That should give me quite a lot more length without having to make up more gelatin.
ETA: I should also be able to get two tests in on each outing, with the JHPs because most of them won't likely penetrate past 14". Each test will be four to five shots so we'll be seeing a much better statistical sample than my earlier tests. From here on out, I'd prefer to test in this way, if conditions allow.

I think that's a great idea. But since you'll be putting more than one round into the same gel block I would suggest keeping track of penetration depth individually for each round fired before each next shot just in case they penetrate to different depths because of the gel block possibly being compromised after each next shot.

I did four shots on the last test, with the 180 gr BCSP. They passed through the full 28" (both blocks) without crossing each other. I track what shot I fired at what part of the block and I record velocity and penetration after each shot so we should get good data. From what I've read, the pros are happy if the impacts are a few inches apart and bullet tracks don't actually intersect.
Sounds reasonable to me.
Haven't seen any new videos. Even tnoutdoors9 has been quite. The PPU and velocity will be interesting to see!
