Title: Barnes 140 TAC-XP
Post by: cwlongshot on April 25 2017 05:28:20 AM MDT
I scored a couple hundred of these for a very good price. (American Reloading) I am not much of a solid copper bullet guy... Mostly cause of cost and altho they are better for retaining weight. Cup-n-Core bullets have served me just fine. Well the cost of these was too hard NOT to buy, so I have them. I guess I'll need a new Barnes manual to find date as a 140 g isn't std for the 40cal diameter.

Any of you guys try these?

I read that Barnes loads then pretty light (1050fps) in the 40 to produce less felt recoil, while maintaining good energy levels. That's not my need. :) I'll also likely load them in the 10MM for use on Coyotes out of the Mech-tech carbine and G20. last year Wade (Shadow) was kind enough to give me some 155g Devastators and I took a coyote with them shortly after. WOW, they do expand! I am hoping these will do the same! I know I can get 1600+ from them in the 16" barrel.

Any suggestions or advice is always welcome!

Buffalo Bore really pushed the envelope with the 155 grain using Power Pistol which was heavily compressed and scary as hell.

This info found in the Pro Grade should help out;

Here is the Buffalo Bore;

Thanks man!

I downloaded couple pages off Barnes and see Power Pistol. I dont have that one in the locker...thought I had HS6... but its gone too. I loaded up a few with Unique as it was one of top bel powders that I did have on hand. Ill look for some PP this week.

I am surprised nothing on Barnes pushes this bullet past 1050 in the S&W and only a lil faster in the 10!
I watched a couple gel videos on the 140 and see a couple makers push it to top velocities. I wonder if there is a reason past pressure. It being all copper and long as in longer than a 180 cup n core bullet.  The loads in Barnes pages are almost duplication of 180g loads....

Guess like the 135 FMJ expanding I asked about last year, I'll be venturing into no mans land to get good velocities with this one!

I haven't checked your links yet as I'm only on the iphone. Ill look when I get home.

My heath had problems and my mother and 28 year old son passed so I just locked my shelf up in the home for several years. TO TAKE THE TIME OF GRIEVING I STARTED RELOADIND AGAIN STILL HAVE MY license to manufacture ammo FFL under Rome custom ammo have have a few thousand rounds of barns 140 and trying to sort threw the few thousand 200 grain gold dots that don't have pull marks.

George, welcome and thanks for getting back here on the forum after all that has occurred, however I sent you a personal e-mail a little while ago.  I still have the notes I made of all the pulled rounds you sent if they were lost or you should need them.  All the best of luck getting your business back up and going.  It has been quite a while and if I can be of any assistance please don't hesitate to ask.

Yes those 200 Gold Dots were a rare find and I did pass some of the ones you sent to others as well.  They tested out fairly well even at 1240 FPS, however water jugs are tough on them.  I recently picked up a small quantity of these Barnes 140 grain bullets from American Reloading to load for myself and as you can see, I'm always trying to help others in their quest.

If you want to establish under your old forum name "Rome" let me know and I will help with that as well.

Best regards my friend...

I've loaded those used ramshot shillotte
Used the Barnes load data all the way to there max listing.
In a factory stock g20 gen4 recoil was mild accuracy seemed to be on par. Sorry no velocity data.  :(

Wow! 11 grains of power pistol? Barnes tops out at 7.8 grains on their load charts.
