Anyone have any hands on experience with the current batch of Match Extremes? I have seen pictures only and some have black triggers and some silver. Some have ports in the slide and some don't. Any experience with the durability of the ceramic coating on the extremes?
I had been thinking of a hunter model and put a Match Extreme 10mm on layaway at Buds instead. From what I have seen the 6 inch match in 10mm only seem to pop up every couple years so I ordered one sight unseen before they are gone again.
To be honest, my first thought is you could do an awful lot of custom work on a Hunter for $700.
I am excited to hear a range report when you get it though. Witness guns tend to be a great value proposition in every price category. If that is true on this one, then you will have the equivalent of a $3500 1911. Should be a very nice shooting gun.
Believe me I thought the same thing and I will make changes to it also. (Adding even More $) I would have on the hunter also though . I guess it just boiled down to wanting something a little different that you don't see very often.
That.
And...
Every $1 you put into the Hunter is a dollar in a 1100 gun. Every $1 into the Elite Match Extreme is a dollar in a $1800 gun. Because it is both a little different and a nicer gun to start, you are more likely to recoup a higher percentage of your upgrades.
I made my own version out of a Hunter and like it better ;D
I won't be able to go pick it up until friday, but here's a picture my dealer sent me of it. The website shows it with a silver trigger, but it came with a black trigger.

I think the frame is more of a gray from what I have seen and the slide has lightening cuts on the top. None of those features I cared for and the magazine base-pad is squared.
I went custom with a better chrome job than factory and custom base pads. It turned out really nice!

That Xtreme trigger looks cool!
Only the 9mm has the slide cuts. It will be interesting to see how durable the finish is. EAA told me the "industrial ceramic coating " is much better than cerakote. Most likely very similar. And yes the frame is definitely a fairly dark gray.
As long it isn't the "Wonder" finish. I think it means "I wonder why they call this a protective finish.
On the plus side of the Wonder finish, I now know how easy it is to home parkerize and cerakote.
Very nice looking pistol. I am sure it shoots even better than it looks.
Are you positive on the slide cuts? Every offering I have seen has them.
The Gold Match Extreme does. The standard Match Extreme doesn't.

The only 10mm they list that has the ported/lightened slide is the Witness Limited Custom.
How confusing ???
This one does: https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/eaa-tanfoglio-witness-match-xtreme-semi-automatic-10mm-6-barrel-14-round-capacity?a=1818963
I wouldn't put 100% on online Gun sellers photos.
They are not always accurate. Hence their disclaimers that usually state that.
EAA is not a very precise organization. So ...

The photo in that link is the Gold Match Extreme. Same as the photo I posted.
I called a couple different places that had current stock available of this model. Even had one place have a distributor pull one and check. Mine is marked gold match extreme and only the 9mm has the slide cuts. Not the 10mm or the 40. Current models are also no longer the 2 tone with the frame being hard chromed, but industrial ceramic coating instead.
There are so many pictures out there it's very hard to nail down the current configuration of these. Some pictures representing the 10mm were photos of the 9mm with the slide cuts.
The only unexpected surprise is that I was counting on it having a silver trigger. Only because I bought a black trigger for it with intentions of putting the silver one in my limited.
It often seems like EAA just assembles parts they have on hand.
So Sportsman's Guide used the wrong picture there.
I would say not only is it wrong, but it is at least 2 years old or more. It says Tanfoglio where they have said
Witness EAA Cocoa FL for at least 2 years now.
I picked it up last night and made some changes with parts I had waiting for it.
Replaced the gold team ambi safety with the ambi used on the stock 2 & 3 , and slimed the paddles down.
Replaced the silver extended mag release with a standard black release.
Re-contured the rear sight.
20lb recoil spring, 18lb hammer spring, extra power firing pin spring and EGW flat bottom firing pin stop.
I shot it today with some S&B, Sig fmj, and Underwood 155gr xtp & 165gr gold dot. I had 1 failure to go into battery with a gold dot. This set up is finally the awnser for brass not to go into orbit.

I agree, I really like the changes.
I like the frame color also, cool gun all around.
EGW makes a flat bottom block now?

EGW makes a flat bottom block now?
Yes. It's listed on there website, but with no detailed description. I emailed them and they confirmed it is a FBFPS. I bought one for all three of my 10mm Tanfo's.

That's excellent! Looks like a good piece and I might have to pick up a spare.
Is the rear sight an LPA design with any changes?
It's not marked LPA like my stock III, and has a taller blade like on my limited. but it is fully serrarrated and the one on my limited is not , but the LPA marked one is. So I would say they have changed it somewhat yet again.
Here is the fps part#

I know it's still early, but which one do you like shooting the most?
The limited is my favorite over the stock III, but no matter how hard I try I shoot the Stock III consistently more accurate. I put about 100 rounds through the extreme today and it wasn't bad at all, but at this point the stock III still has the edge.
Thanks for the info about EGW offering a FPFPS for the Witness. Ordering two as soon as I am home from India.
It's now a gold match extreme 10mm custom carry
