Would you rather have a glock 40 with the long slide or have the g20 with the option of a lone wolf LS setup , 50 GI, 460 Rowland, etc. ? I have a glock 29 it's my favorite gun with my Rock island a close second but I don't want a huge barrel coming out of my subcompact and i'm a huge 460 fan. The frame on the G40 does not extend all the way like my Rock island do you think its safe to say they used the same frame with a thinner slide (and only difference being the slide ?
G20 for me. The only draw of the G40 is the MOS sight system. Especially now that I have a 9X25 barrel. Gotta think an optic would help with the long shots.
I agree but I gotta wonder if the extra slide does something to support the barrel that would make it more accurate compared to a 6" coming out a g20 even though I have zero scientific evidence or reason to think so .

At the risk of sounding spoiled... I would prefer both and do own all three. A good comparison would be a Ruger GP-100 with a 2 1/2" barrel, with a 4" barrel and with a 6" barrel. No matter what, the 4" is the most versatile but can never fully replace the shorter or longer variants. No matter what the 6" barrel is easier to hit with than the 4" and the 4" is easier to hit with than the 2 1/2". The 6" has far less recoil with hot loads than the 4" and so on.
So the devil is in the details here. IMO, if you have a G20 you will never actually need a G40 (pretty much the same as the GP-100 4" example above). But many people appreciate the significant drop in recoil , and if it is not more intrinsically accurate (probably isn't in many cases) it IS significantly easier to learn to shoot well. However, if you think the G20 is a brick you'll finds out the G40 is a super brick. It's 5 oz heavier but that extra weight is exactly where it does the most good.
Personally I find the G40 do be a handgun hunters dream come true. But if I had to belt carry every day I would lean toward the G20. I am also a giant fan of the G29 so I am always a bit happily confused.
Short version... for a guy who already has a G29... just pick one (closing your eyes and pointing is an acceptable method) and go shoot it. You really can't go wrong either way if you already have the G29. :)

Since the State of California claims the Glock 40 is unsafe, I am stuck with the option of a LW longslide on a G20/21 frame.

I used to own both. I sold the Glock 20 and kept the Glock 40 MOS. I prefer shooting the 40 MOS.
