Title: 165s in a 10mm...
Post by: RJM52 on October 18 2017 07:38:00 AM MDT
Have only been shooting the 10 a little less that two years but have tried ammo/reloads from 135 to 180 grains in weight.  So far the 165s seem to shoot best both in terms of accuracy and shootability...

Have only tried two powders so far, PowerPistol and AAC-9. Velocity has run from 1125 to just over 1300 fps.

Bullets on hand right now are:
Ranier TC
ACCURA FMJ
ACCURA HP
Speer Gold Dot HP

All are loaded to 1.250-1.260".

The .40 165s have the same sectional density as the 170 gr. .41, 180 gr. .44, 125 gr. 357 and the 200 gr. .45.

Anyone else settle on 165s are do most of you shoot heavier bullets?

Bob

I do carry a heavier bullet usually.  I prefer 180-200 grain in my Glock 20.

But, I load lighter bullets for my Glock 29.  Historically I have loaded 135's from Nosler as they are usually economical.  But I recently picked up a bunch of HST's and plan to load the 155 and 165 grains for my Glock 29.

I have a bunch of BE-86 and Longshot, so I will probably work up loads with those powders.

I have a full range of weights loaded and shoot but like the 155's, 165's, older 170 & 175's, 180's and 200 grain weights.
When out in the woods I carry the 200 grain XTP's, in and around town 165 Gold Dots.

The 200 grain XTP has performed exceptionally for me so far. I love it.

Thanks for the replies...  I have 7 10mms at this point (up from zero in February 2016) and trying to find one or maybe two bullet weights that will cover what I need to do.

The 165s seem to shoot very well in all the guns, have modest recoil and good speed. The "heavy" will probably be a 200-220 hard cast.

Thanks again...Bob

Seven 10mm's is the right amount.  Heaven help those poor guys with eight or more.  They have a problem! :P

You're doing it wrong if you're only getting 1300 out of a 165...but then again you're not filling flight plans for your brass either.. :D
I like the #9 and #7, but I mainly load 180's I have a bunch of jhp and fmj from Delta precision. I have some XTP but have yet to load them. I have 300 jhp loaded and about 800 fmj. Life is good for now.
