Amazing. Can't begin to get my head around the idea of wanting to do something like this. But, we don't need to understand them, just need to stop them. We need a few people posted in schools equipped to stop these madmen immediately.

Just after Columbine, my youngest daughter attended a "Sock Hop" at her grade school. Several fathers stayed around. I was among them and was legally armed. (Ironically, California has among the least restrictive CCW carry laws.)

Don't know what tools the other fathers brought, but I was doing to stop anyone harming anyone with a quickness.

Sad day.

I would never have guessed that ... amazing!  Colorado (my state) has one of the best CCW laws, but the (then) Republican governor refused to sign our CCW law unless it made K-12 off-limits ... REALLY a stupid idea.

Very sad.

Seem like it will be hard to prevent. Most schools are locked for entry which puzzles me here.

See anyway to prevent these things from happening? My hunch is all the guns were illegal.

The only way to prevent this is to start teaching educators now to embrace a different mindset and only hire the ones that are willing and able to be armed in class.

I am glad in my state the law says that government buildings (state) are open to CCW.  I was at the vital records office and dmv today armed, and at the elementary school yesterday armed.

Every major news organization now reporting it was a Glock 10mm.

"Besides the high-power Bushmaster, Lanza was also carrying a Glock 10mm and a Sig Sauer 9mm. It was one of those handguns with which he took his own life"

So he killed his Mother and stole the guns. I have thought for a while now owners need to secure them better.

Stole the guns.  Once again, short of a ban with confiscation, new legislation would not have impacted this person.

And most Americans won't support a gun ban and confiscation, so there is really very little ammo here for gun grabbers.

Just be sure to make that point when debating the issue.  What legislation do you propose that would have a limited impact on my right to bear arms, but would have prevented this tragedy.

Let me provide some wisdom...Government Is The Problem!
How is it that Government's greed doesn't get blamed for what is wrong with this nation? Government taxes everything these days, this has force both families/couples to both work to sustain a favorable life style to make a living, while trying to maintain a home, transportation and schooling....This has been burden of the citizens of this great nation to have a decent family life and structure, but I don't see Government Gone Wild trying to lessen these burdens on hard working Americans! NO! They just keep piling on the taxes and spending the peoples money, creating more and more debt! Then the lack of parenting and family structure is damaged, the children are not being supervised as they should, then when the children lash out, we all wonder, WHY! I say the Government needs to tighten its budget and learn to live on 10% FLAT Tax! Politicians are have got too greedy. Why have they pushed religion and God's words out of their way? Because commandments like "Do NOT Steal" creates a hazardous Work environment! But this current Government Gone Wild doesn't want to hear this, they just want to ban guns! Government is the problem!

Well said The_Shadow!  Many other good comments here too.

I would add another issue being privately owned prisons being subsidized by at least the Federal level of gov't turning them into a money making business, skewing the reason they exist in the first place while at the same time promoting negative behavior in the way prisons are run/set-up.

These people who think gun ownership should simply be a thing of the past are the same ones that can't give criminals enough rights.  And rarely in my opinion does punishment fit the crime, and sometimes the other way around too (or maybe more so that the punishment is an incorrect punishment sometimes).

The Gov isn't all the problem.

Parents who won't parent help a good deal.

And people who won't just leave it alone.  They feed both the media frenzy and the demented minds that crave negative attention.

And a society in general that doesn't ever give a thought to how they might react to this type of horrible situation.

But the first and best place to start is definitely by reducing the reach of the government.

Of course it doesn't help that stay at home mom's are pretty much a rarety these days.  Can't even spank a kid anymore.  Who, adult or child, stops doing anything that they at least argueably shouldn't be doing, when someone of some form of authority says;  "STOP IT." ::)

My heart breaks everytime I think about what happened at that school. I don't know the answer but cannot agree more that something must be done to stop the violence that seems to be increasing around the globe.

In Australia we have to jump through some crazy hoops and are restricted in what we can own, in my opinion it's too restrictive but there are elements that make sense. As a father I have always paid particular attention to the storage of my firearms and ammunition so that no one else can access them. Whilst I don't support restrictions on types of guns, I do support efforts to ensure that only those eligable to own them have access to them.

Lock up your guns people!
