Title: Grand Power 9mm and other decocker options
Post by: Intercooler on November 05 2017 07:55:27 AM MST
I haven't had any issues out of my Grand Power 9mm for the last few visits. It seems to just mow through the ammo now. With all of that said... I'm thinking about moving on from it. I might try it one more time with the ZQI 123gr NATO ammo that gave it fits early on to see if that runs flawless now.
It's kind of a shame it isn't the newer decocker version, or I would be tempted to keep it. Anyone have a good list of 3.75"- 4" barrel length pistols with decockers? I'm debating if I should wait until after Shot Show to see what might surface...

Or a new GP? K100 looks nice.

Has your barrel ever hung up forcing you to wrench the slide open?

The CZ P-01 and PCR are pretty sweet shooting pistols. I hear really good things about the CZ P-07 for accuracy and reliability too.

I will have to check those out!

I admit, I have a CZ problem... So I may be a little biased. I have the safety models though. If you like to tinker CZ's can get you in trouble. Between CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works there are almost no limits to what you can do. My Compacts have the Cajun Gun Works bushing and I've never come close to reaching their  accuracy potential. Plus the CZ Forum has a really good community with lots of support.

Evidence of my addiction...

No... But I've come close to going out and visiting Dave and Scott. If I lived close by that would be a bad thing.... I would go from doing this for fun:

To applying and hoping to work for them in the evenings or something. I'm out in Utah. Are you close to them?

Why thank you! I'm restoring a surplus 75 right now. It'll join the family pics eventually.

I have always wanted to get a CZ. I'm waiting to hear back from Henning about a Shadow 2. Very nice CZ's!!!
Title: Re: Grand Power 9mm and other decocker options
Post by: Scarlett Pistol on November 05 2017 01:54:23 PM MST
Whew, those Shadow 2's sound incredible! I haven't heard about Henning's work on them, but I've heard really good things about Cajun Gun Works and CZ Custom working on them. I've heard really good things about them stock as well. A few posts where the smoothness of the Single Action trigger varied between pistols.... My SP-01 is set up like a Shadow and the recoil is nothing, the feel is great. I can only imagine the Shadow 2.

Side note, those two Compacts I have with rails are non-standard. They are a mix of things but have a frame like the Shadow 2. Their recoil is fantastic, so I can only imagine the Shadow 2. If they made that in 10mm I would get a second job to buy one.

I was thinking the Urban Gray might be nice until looking at actual photos. I'm leaning more towards all black or send it for some type of hard chroming.

DE has the urban Grey S2 in stock too, now that I looked. Hard chrome is the finish I dream of for my pistols. Side note, the finish for the S2 barrel is hard enough that you need a special throat Reamer. I've got one that can do their normal barrels.

Interesting information from Henning:

I like the Shadow 2 a lot, but the difference between it and the Stock 2 in performance when both are tuned, is marginal..

I'm trying to see if he sells CZ now. He has been running a Shadow this year.

That's good to know both are comparable in quality. Let us know what you end you doing and how you like it.

Does hard chrome hide machining marks?  If not you want to find one of the S2's that has nitride only.  Word is the polycoat versions required polycoat because after nitride they didn't look good enough for QC,  I lucked out on getting a nitride S2 in the initial batch CZ customs received and it is the nicest pistol I have seen as far as fit and finish goes. They claimed only 30 made it into the country in the 1st CZC batch as nitride only.

On the subject of a decocker.  Don't overlook the P09/P07.  They are both smooth shooting pistols once you Cajunize them and they ship with decocker installed and an optional safety in the box.  I have one of each. The P09 was the start of my CZ addiction.

Hard Chrome not only doesn't hide machine marks, it usually makes them really stand out.  Really thick chrome plating is only .02 mils (.00002" or two hundred thousandths) thick.

I see Polycoat is the only option now. Is it kind of dull and how does it hold up compared to other finishes?

Yeah, it's more of a matte finish rather than a glossy finish. Mine are holding up well. I haven't had a cerekoted pistol so I can't compare it fairly. But at least from what I hear they are similar.

I have worked with Cerakote and you can alter it's finish from dull/matte to shiny by the amount of the hardener you mix in.  And while it is orders of magnitude thicker in application than hard chrome, I would not count on it to hide machining marks that can't be sanded out.

How sad is it when the finish kills the buy? I looked at both offerings and don't care for the finish on the Shadow 2. I kind of like Henning's thought process on the Stock II, where at least you get Hard Chrome out of the box.

If Henning says they're comparable then why not?

I double checked with Jeff Quinn about 10mm's to be release at Shot and he knew of nothing coming out.

No, not once. I've actually had no problems other than the mag drop which is clearly fixed now.

I looked on GunBroker and a K100 was listed several times at $375 without a bid. I'm not giving it away! Time to order some sights and make it like I want it!

Well Dawson doesn't make sights to fit and Eagle is like EAA. I get a lady on the phone who doesn't know the product line. She then gives me the number to a Gunsmith to see what fits.

I took my old sights off this morning to match them up. Finally ordered! I went with a red fiber front and all black blade rear sight.

I put sights on the K100 for now. Fiber front and target rear.

Jeff Quinn didn't know of any new 10mm's in the pipeline for Shot Show. We might possibly see another 9mm and why I'm holding off for now.

It looks like Springfield was blowing smoke on a new 10mm (XD).

Since the GP is staying for a while now, I found a grip tape kit for them. It will be interesting to see how it changes that aspect of things!

So what I've read is that the CZ-75 sights will fit and work on a GP (MK12) with minimal work.

I'm done! I probably shouldn't have even ordered the grip tape. It locked up with the ZQ1 ammunition just like in the beginning when the pistol was new. I realize the edge on those rounds is a little sharp, but my other pistols mow right through it. The topper was it shoots low with the new sights (IMO). Time to go shopping!

It doesn't look too positive selling one on GunBroker. I sent out e-mails to everyone on the GP contact list looking for a sight fix. Hopefully between that and Eagle Imports something exists for a sight fix.

Henning is making mounts for optics. That looks like my best bet to salvage this thing is to put one on.
