Hey Folks,
Are there any noteworthy advantages or disadvantages when using Power Pistol or Blue Dot under 180gr XTP, differences, likes dislikes? I'll be shooting them in a G20 gen 4 with a KKM factory length barrel, new Starline brass, and Win LPP
Thanks
Power Pistol burns cleaner, especially in less than max loads.
Kenk Power pistol is a little faster burning than the Blue Dot and is also a good 10mm powder choice! However if you are going to be making a purchase of the powder I would opt for the newer BE-86 which is a derivative of Bullseye just like Power Pistol that was originally BE-84.
Alliant BE-86 has flash suppressants and is slightly faster burn rate than Power Pistol and near about the same performance overall. I have liked the BE-86 for the economics of using less powder and it efficiency... In the pull-downs we have seen it used in the Sig 10mm ammo.
Blue Dot has been a great powder for the 10mm if used in the upper limits where the pressures generated help the full clean burn and accuracy...
So do your thoughts hold true to 180gr lead as well?
They will.
Further, both power pistol and BE-86, being a touch faster, will better obturate the bullet base to seal the bore with a lead bullet. This will increase accuracy and eliminate leading. My less-than-max loads of Blue Dot result in some minor leading. Not so with Unique, Power Pistol or BE-86. Unique, of course, just doesn't quite get you to full 10mm velocity, but Power Pistol and BE 86 do.
Thanks, I'm running 10.5-10.7gr of BD right now with the XTP and lead, does that seem like a decent charge to you
Yes those Blue dot loads are good to go and what I used for many years with 10.4 grains behind my 175 grain being a tack driver and would hit clay targets on the 130 yard berm in my younger years with my S&W 1006 with the adj. sights.
Thanks my Friend, Have a safe & Blessed Christmas
