Title: Sites and Grips For Witness Elite Match
Post by: The Earl o Sammich on December 15 2017 06:01:36 PM MST
Just got my Witness Elite Match and haven't even fired it yet.  I can tell I want to get some slimmer grips, wood if available and some sites that you can actually see when the sun is not out.  8)

Any recommendations for either.

How thin on the grip panels? EG is the thinnest of the bunch (some red ones for sale in the ad section here). Then you have Scales, old Walnut, new Walnut, Henning's, LOK (seems like a hot ticket right now) and a couple of others out there. When I had my match I loved the Hogue finger groove grip. Fit like a glove!

I saw the Hogues but thought the finger grooves would add to the front end.

What/where ar these old walnut new walnut grips?  Are they thinner?

You have to have 50 to start a thread, but I don't think that applies to looking over the ads.

50 posts ain't gunna happen.  The LOKs look like the ticket.  EDG is thinner buy a few hundredths but they're also $40. more and they don't come in OD green.

Edited to add $47 dollars cheaper.  Found them someplace else for $68.00

Now for some sights.

If you put on the LOK panels, please post a picture with your take on them.

LOK grips don't fit.  They're for the large frame what ever that is????   >:D

Going to order these next.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/EAA-Witness-Grips-Lava-Rock-Texture-Choose-your-color/281254614479?hash=item417c14d5cf:g:GnoAAOxyNDxRXmC5

Can someone ask the question "How wide are these on the pistol?"  I canceled my eBay account after getting ripped off and no satisfaction from eBay.

All of the Match pistols are large frame. As a matter of fact, everything has been for a long long time and a small frame is hard to even find these days.

Here's a picture of my old Match with my favorite grip! Since the Match doesn't have any front knurling built into it, this was the bomb!

I have a Witness Elite and there were gaps big enough to fly a B52 through.

I'll put them back on and snap a pic.

I think the panels you have are for the Competition frame (large frame Limited, Stock, Hunter). The Match is a different Standard (large frame).

I tried this with one pair of these grips and couldn't get it to stretch far enough using a hair dryer. Any other tips? Thanks for the other grip links.

They will fit. Get one side secured and pull like hell! You also will need to sand the pads on the inside to clear the magazines.

OK, got the Hennings coming.  They said guaranteed to fit.  We will see.

Well I got my Henning grips, ordered them OD Green and have them on the pistol.  I am not terribly impressed.  $150 with the Torx grip screws.

Henning will probably take a return on them. The Hogue on that pistol is the ticket. No interest in that?

Let me see what I can come up with.

Thanks Intercooler.  I was looking at those and think I just might pull the trigger, pun intended.  The reviews are mixed.  I put these Hennings back on and used a C clamp and some leather for padding to pinch them tight and that took out a lot of the gap.   I might try that Hogue but it looks like it would add to the grip size rather than reduce it.

News from LOK:

Not yet, but we're working on it. Hopefully 1-2 months we will have those grips ready.

If you can wait that long they're coming! Everyone with those panels love them!

OK, I just got the cheap Lava Grips from CopperGunGrips.com.  Initial impression was not real impressive.  Looked like cheap plastic, did have a very grippy texture though..  Screw holes didn't line up but luckily I had the Torx Screws from the Henning grips that allowed me to mount them.  Even then I had to lift the grip panel off the frame to get the screws to start properly.  Once they were started and screwed to snug I had to force the panels into place.  They snap in with an audible snap.  If you get these be careful.  A few of the reviews say they broke on install.  Look at which way they have to got go and then push gently but firmly.

Now that they're on I think I kind of like these,  as narrow as the Hennings, MUCH more grippy, course texture AND they're only $35 bucks.  I'ld give them a thumbs up.  Few little things to watch on install but over all they worked without getting any fitting tools out.   I'll get some pictures in the day light and post them up as well as putting a few mags through the pistol now that I have the slide stop issue under control.

That sounds like par for the course. In all my trials I have found if they just drop in place you will get movement. I have also had to juggle a panel/screw to get some on. Maybe it's frame differences?
