Title: Nosler 200g JHP Load data?
Post by: Xfire68 on January 29 2013 04:47:50 PM MST
I picked up 750 200g Nosler JHP's on sale for $104 shipped and I was going to just use Hornady 200g XTP data to load them but,
I was wondering if anyone has manufactures load data from Nosler? I checked their site but, I did not see anything other then 150g
and 135g data.

I have Unique, Power Pistol, Blue Dot, 800x and others.

These will be shot from my G20.

What powders do you have on hand to load with?
Check the diameter of those to see if they are 0.400".  Some bullets have been found to be slightly under... ???

They should track the Hornady XTP data fairly well.

I posted them in my original post?

I would stick with blue dot and book loads personally, although 800x would be fine as well.  My experience with Blue Dot and 200 gr bullets is that exceeding the published loads does not increase velocity much at all.  I have gone as far as a half grain over book with only about a 50 fps increase in velocity.

You will want to start lower to see how the Nosler's react from your equipment...
I use 10.5 grains of Blue Dot under the 200 XTP at 1180-1200 fps
I use 8.0 grains of Power Pistol under the 200 XTP at 1180-1200 fps
I have tested 9.4 grains of 800X and LongShot under the 200 XTP at 1240 fps.  Casings can be damaged/smiled at these levels depending on case support and brass condition.
I consider these to be max loads in my pistols (S&W 1006 and Glock-29 with extra power recoil springs) for the Hornady XTP bullet seated to 1.255"
Use this data at your own risk... :o

Thanks for the replies. I have a number of reloading manuals including Hornady's #8 and Lyman's 49th. This is why I asked for data. Different bullets react differently and I
did not want just to use Hornady's 200g XTP data if there was Nosler 200g data out there.

I will just work one up using Power Pistol, 800x and Blue Dot and see which one I like most.

I need to get a Crony! :'(

Yes without the CHRONY you'd be working blindly! :-[

Hornady tops out Longshot at 7.3 now huh...

Guess my 9.0g load is a bit over there's. ;)  I began to see pressures form my barrel at 9.5 so I backed to 9.0 from my KKM 6"barrel W/200 XTP.
