Title: 9mm Super hits 2725fps!
Post by: TonyRumore on February 19 2019 03:33:15 PM MST
I'm a big fan of the 9x25 but the 9mm Super can out run it.  It's a 40 Super case, necked to 9mm.  It's got more case capacity than a 38 Casull...kinda like a .451 Detonics Mag (Rowland) necked to 9mm.

With 21.5gr of VV 3N38 it tossed the 65gr Lehigh Xtreme Defense bullet out of the 6" Witness barrel at 2725fps.   The 9x25 can push it to 2500fps.

Wow!  What gun and barrel length were you testing with Tony?

What velocities are you getting with the 9 super with more conventional bullet weights, say 125 grain?

I haven't got there yet.  I only tried that one bullet.

Custom barrel or one that was NOS production?

I'm not trying to start an argument, but...

The author / OP used a 6" Tanfo with polygonal rifling and I "suspect" they used a 5" cut rifled 9x25 unless they re-chambered a 6" tanfo barrel chambered to 9x25? Not apples to apples without more info. I've read polygonal rifling can boost velocity by 3-4% add another inch of barrel and...

But... the fact is even today the 9x25 has readily available barrels, dies and quite a bit of load data. Anyone who just wants to go the route of a "wildcat" for a voodoo claimed 225 fps advantage over a 9x25 really needs more data from the OP.

And yes, I know who the OP is and where he hails from... Google is my friend :-)
