Title: I'm glad I got a 22 revolver
Post by: Olgo on March 13 2019 04:18:37 PM MDT
Who would've thought they were a lot of fun shooting em?  8)

I found out about a gun shop behind a local lumber yard and they have a web site. They were selling this 22/22mag combo revolver for $160. A western style single action revolver.

Ammo's so cheap and plentiful. How cool is that?  :D

I have a pair of RG Model 66 22 revolvers that look about the same.  My dad and grandpa bought them together when I was about 5 years old and I have now inherited them.

I found that Buds Gun Shop sell the 22 ammo really cheap. I bought several brands to try out. From my past experience at the range when I had several brands I got from Academy (they cost more damn but live and learn).

What I found was that my 22 revolver in both LR and Mag likes 40 grain and better. Below that I had keyholes and poor accuracy. The bunch from Buds were all 40 grain except for Hornady 22 Mag CD 45 grain FTX. All did well.

I went to Walmart to shop and thought I'd stop by the ammo counter. I noticed the 500 rnd box of Remington Thunderbolts for $14.99. I've read mixed reviews on them but hey, less than 3 cents each so I bought em. They actually shot good at the last trip to the range that the next time I went to WM I bought another 500 rnd box but it was $16.99 this time.

Best of all it was a blast. The Hornady 22 Mag CD ammo seemed very capable for SD. Also the CCI 22 LR Velocitor 40 grain felt a bit powerful.
