Title: DoubleTap Crap Trap (Bait & Switch)
Post by: Overkill338 on April 05 2019 07:52:41 PM MDT
I recently ordered some 125 grain Bonded 357 SIG ammo from DT and Underwood. Minutes apart. It took Underwood from Thursday night to Monday to get me my ammo. DT needed a full 7 days.

Then when it arrived, I found out Doubletap uses the 9mm 124 grain Gold Dot and advertises it as a 125. We all know, that their is a special design 125 grain Gold Dot made just for the 357 SIG. Well DT is using that (mostly) common knowledge to sell ammo.

I've written them twice, just asking for an explanation, but I don't get one. It's amazing to see a good company fall so far. False advertising is what I call it.

You can see the label clearly says 125.

....a couple water jugs shows the 124 GD is not made for the extra speed, and keep in mind, the DT is only moving 1400 fps, the UW is 1500+.

I agree. Rip off. DT, no longer.

Have honestly never tried DT, or BB, but have always been "Extremely" happy with Underwood's quality, as well as their 2-3 day shipping...Tough to beat service & quality like that!

They finally called me, and it has been made right. The loadings I received were done by a new (now ex) employee. They replaced the ammo with my choice, and I went with the 357 SIG 115 Tac-XP.

Nice, at least they acknowledged their mistake and fixed it. When it comes to high performance factory ammo, it's tough to beat Underwood : )

I look at it a little differently.  Underwood (and totally to their credit) sells ammo loaded just as fast as they can safely make it.  This is not bad as long as you want flat out wide open.  But sometimes flat out wide open is more than a person needs/wants.  DT (to their credit) down loads most of their ammo to something a bit hotter than most factory ammo but noticeably slower/milder than Underwood.  However, while I have found DT to make very good ammo, most of their velocity claims are pure fantasy by 100-200 fps.  Underwood's and Buffalo Bore's velocity claims are spot on.

In the end, all these brands have proven to be good ammo.  DT provides a nice 90% kind of load philosophy.  You just can't trust their numbers IME.

Great to know, as I have not tried BB or DT at this point, but yes, flat out / wide open doesn't always foot the bill

That just seems nuts in a modern factory. Wow.

So if a guy had to choose one ammo company, BB, or DT, which one offers the best overall product?
Thanks

Ken
