Title: Steinel Ammunition Co
Post by: Kenk on May 11 2019 12:24:21 PM MDT
Anyone done any testing, or shot Steinel's ammo? It doesn't look like anything to write home about, but you never know.
Thanks

Ken

Their 140 grain copper is at 1515 fps. Not to shabby..

Hey, Kenk.  I could be considered slightly biased but...

That Golden Saber load is an accurate load with good self defense capabilities (credit to Remington not us).  They are very consistent- with the most recent test showing an SD of 5.5 fps.

We now have three 10mm loads available...and will be working on a 200gr TC cast (Rim Rock) load next week.  A 165gr SCHP is also on our radar.  We will also certainly consider requests of members here that have a hard time finding a particular load... or love one that is overpriced.

I'm virtually always available through our website's live chat if you have any quick questions.  I'm sure I'll be lurking here a bit too.

Wow, thanks for pointing out this site!

They've got some interesting loads in other calibers.  I am particularly excited to see they are offering 44 Special 200 grain Gold Dots at 1020 fps.  That's a very close match to the Speer 44 mag short barrel load that I believe has been discontinued, but is a big favorite of mine.

I will be watching this site for other offerings.  I would be particularly interested in a 10mm 165 grain Gold Dot or Golden Saber at around 1200-1300 fps.  It would be a little bit faster than the 40 S&W, but not in that 1400 fps range that seems to over-drive those bullets.

1. Thanks for starting this thread, KENK!
2. As I understand it, most traditional (old school) hollow points need to be velocity limited in order to work properly, meaning not fragment, and not exit the "BG"  (bad guy) and maybe enter another unintended target.  Certainly the 10mm can over-power the standard weight (180gr) bullets, by a wide margin...

Not saying that to inform you by any means, just laying out the info as I understand it.  Now perhaps the bullet in question is better at staying in the BG w/o fragging, and could be driven a little harder?  :-\  I bought a few boxes of the Freedom XTP's (iirc) and my son said they are dead-accurate in both his 10mm platforms. Relatively soft shooters also, and they were cheap for a box of 50.  But that might not be a state of the art SD carry ammo, the XTP's have been around for a long time.  Your thoughts would be great to hear 👍

Afternoon undeRGRound,
I really like the XTP bullet style, and have loaded up a ton of their 180's. I have also used Underwood's 180 XTP for whitetail hunting with much success. I'm confident the XTP bullet would work well in a defensive situation if that's what you chose to go with.
Thanks

Ken

undeRGRound,
If you like the XTP, but want to load up something that is a better buy for  target shooting, the 180gr HAP is a good option
Thanks
