I'm loading with 8.5 of Longshot behind 180 gr bullets just curious if anyone has some experience with what delivered better accuracy and burn of the powder the standards or magnums? I use cci primers been loading with 300 large pistol also have some 350 magnum large pistol I use to light off my 44 mag H110. Thanks for any information and advice that yall can give.
Just be careful with loads and then changing primers... primer changes, esp to magnum, in my book require a new workup as pressure can go up.
Yes exactly, which I've seen no book data with magnum primers wondered if anyone had some info from experience and if there was any advantage to running magnums vs standard. I always like to tread safely. If magnums are a no no I'm content running standards.
I have used the CCI 350 with several of the LongShot powder loadings, it does help the powder burn better...

How about neither. I've switched over to Winchester Large Pistol primers.....they don't even make a magnum branded one since the standard primer has enough brisance for magnum loads with slow powders. For a 45acp, they produce match quality groups. For the 10mm, since switching over, groups are real tight and most often after shooting several hundred rounds at max loading, the barrel looks like it's clean and shines like a mirror. From a 44mag using Blue Dot and 2400 powders I have no odd ignition issues and real good accuracy. If you use Winchester primers, there's no decision to make, it's Large Pistol primers.
FWIW, I've also switched to Winchester primers in the ARs- 223, 6x 45, .25x 45, and 7.62x 39. Accuracy is tops and barrels are coming home after a day of shooting looking as clean as when they left the house. Yeah, I'm sold on Winchester primers. About the only rifle I haven't swapped over and that's due to the rifle and all components are not mixed with any other, and that's my Bob Pease prepared Remington 40X 30/338 mag. I shoot it benchrest and offhand at 200 meters. When I'm out of the current Federal 215 match primers I'll be trying out the Winchesters. Otherwise, all components are matched to the rifle and are not used except on that gun.

With Hodgdon LongShot I stop at 9.6 grains @ 1300 fps
