Any thoughts on the G44 - 22 LR? A relative is giving me one for my birthday and am kind of excited about it. After watching several videos, it appears the G44 can be very picky when it comes to ammo, and prefers hotter loads vs the lower velocity bulk stuff, plus when loading mags, it sounds like the bullet cant can get out of wack and do this nosedive thing causing chambering issues ...Thoughts?

I have no experience with them.
I have always thought this was an interesting market for Glock to enter. No doubt this was driven by clamoring from the masses for it, even though I don't think the masses really thought through what they were asking for.
All that said, most 22 semi-auto's tend to be finicky about what they are willing to eat. Good to have the head start of knowing they want hyper velocity stuff.
Congrats on the new gun! Who doesn't like a new gun as a present? If you do have the need to only use something like Minimags, I would suggest looking at the Aquila high velocity ammo, too. Especially if availability, or price, is an issue. I've seen lots of folks, including me, run it at .22 shoots and it seems on par with Minimags.

Well, I ran 200 CCI Minimags, and 100 Stingers without a single mishap today, then tried some Rem Thunderbolts and had 1-2 jams per 10rd mag. You totally have to run the expensive ammo for this gun to function properly in my limited opinion, but had a totally fun time at it. Also the accuracy wasn't half bad for a sub $400.00 dollar pistol. All in all, I think this may be something I kind of like, I know my great nieces and nephews will 😊

I have had terrible luck with Rem Thunderbolts in every 22 I own, including single shot bolt guns. They have had a very high dud rated. Sometimes rotating the round 90° or 180° will cause the round to go off, sometimes not. I have seen these failure rates as high as 5%. I just avoid that ammo like the plague.

Ditto. I've also noticed that the report can be quite different between shots. I've stopped and checked for a squib because some were so quiet.
Ken as much as I love Glocks, I think the M&P 22 pistols are a much safer choice, at least right now.

IM a little late here, but I bought a G44 yesterday. I took it to the range and I was surprised and pleased with this gun. Between my wife, her friend and I we put around 300 rounds of Federal Champion bulk box without one malfunction. I had CCI Mini Mags and Winchester stuff with just incase, but never needed it. Ill keep in mind about using Rem Thunderbolts. I don't have high expectations that the Browning bulk box will work very well. The box I have of that stuff has a lot of failures in every gun.

I took mine out for its 2nd range trip and brought a variety of ammo with. I brought the following: Federal Value Pack (maroon box), Browning BPR, Remington Thunderbolt, Winchester Wildcat and Remington 525 round value pack. I shot 50 round of each type.
I expected the Federal to work as it is the same bullet weight and velocity of the Federal Champion and it did. No failures of any kind.
Next I tried the Remington Thunderbolts. And guess what? No failures of any kind with the 50 round box I brought. I don't know if quality has changed but this box/brick of Thunderbolts is 15 years old a best guess. I don't shoot a lot of 22.
I then tried the Remington value pack and that all worked flawlessly.
The one I expected to have fails of every kind, Browning had zero failure and was the most accurate. This is also a 500 round value pack box. Ive shot this in a Ruger Single Six, Ruger 1022 and Marlin 60 and had many fail to fire. So I was quite surprised by this.
I had one failure. A fail to feed and that was with the Winchester Wildcat. The round stove piped coming out of the magazine. Not sure how that happened but I am guessing it may have been sitting weird in the magazine. The rest of the box shot fine with no issues.
I don't know if I got lucky and bought one that works, but every brand and type of 22 ammo I have has worked. I had left my phone at home so I did not take pictures of groupings but they were all decent from 15 yards. I have not tried the CCI Mini Mags or Stingers but I would expect them to work. So to anyone reading this who is thinking about buying one, you wont be disappointed.

I want one... I'm working on getting one (not easy in California).
I'm a Glock fan, and I've been looking at .22lr conversion kits for years, and the G44 is a way better option.
As for the problems: .22lr pistols are usually a little tricky. I have 30+ different kinds of .22lr stockpiled, and I'm not worried about getting it to run.
After shooting my recently acquired Walther PPK / S .22LR a bunch with the Great Nephews, I am really liking it, what a fun little pistol. It's interesting that Glock 44 mags are in great abundance, yet the PPK / S mags are next to impossible to find other than on EBay for triple the cost

Isn't the G44 basically a G19 with an Advantage Arms L.E. 19/23 Conversion ?
So it would have the same Ammo restriction as the AA L.E. 19/23

I use CCI standard velocity with my conversion with no problem. Could be be the can on the end though.
I bought one of the first ones out when they were introduced. Was actually on the waiting list for them to be delivered. I have had very few problems with it and have probably shot over 3,000 rounds through it. I shoot mostly quality ammunition C.C.I. etc. This past spring I found the yellow box Aquilla for sale on line for a ridiculous price... I think I was ordering it for $14.00 a brick. I bought a dozen bricks total and it runs flawlessly through the G-44 and is very accurate. I recently picked up a second G-44 as when I go shooting with the wife and kids there is less down time when I have two guns running. Although I only have about 500 rounds through the new G-44, it is just as dependable as the first so far.

A good friend of mine has one and he has a lot of malfunctions. More than can be written off as ammo. Maybe he just got a bad one.
We shot a Speed Steel match this past Saturday and he had malfunctions on every stage but 1.
