While sorting thru some fired brass that I had I always run a large magnet over the brass to pickup any of the steel cases.
It picked up about 25 fired cases in 9mm that looked exactly like all the other brass cases.
So i'm guessing there is company that is now brass plating steel 9mm cases. Great....
I didn't record the head stamps - sorry.
So beware.
Yes they do have steel cases that have a brass plating. If they are resized and the can hold their resize and the bullet secure its possible to reuse them if they are not berdan primed.
I found a couple of pieces of 9MM brass like that described at the local range. When I picked it up, I didn't notice it being any different from the other brass casings. I also didn't detect any difference when sizing the cases. It wasn't until running them through my wet/pin tumbler that it became apparent that they weren't brass. When they came out of the tumbler, most of the brass plating had come off and they had a reddish brown almost rusty appearance.
100%. Be aware there is companies making STEEL brass "washed" cases!!!
Have a magnet handi!

The ones I had in 9mm were S&B headstamp.
They were damaged after wet tumbling where the brass plate wore through and the steel underneath was exposed.
If you dry tumble them, they act just like real brass.
