Gunsmithing / Re: Guide rod
November 10 2020 08:38:00 AM MST
There are greater problems than a guide rod for putting a 10MM barrel into a G-21 slide.

The 10 mm will not work satisfactorily in a G-21 slide. I tried a 10 MM barrel in a Tactical length G-21 barrel from Lone Wolf. It was totally unreliable, mainly ejection problems. They eventually told me that it wouldn't work and replaced the 10 MM barrel that they had cut down with a 5.15 " G 21 barrel. They said the 10 MM casing is too big for the G-21 ejection port to allow the gun to recycle reliably.

10mm semi-auto handguns / G20 Locking Block Pin
November 25 2019 08:15:29 AM MST

I have a G20 Gen 3 that keeps bending (bowing) locking block pins. I have replaced that pin 5 times, using OEM, SS, & titanium. All end up with the same  result. Any one out there have any suggestions. ?

Thank you in advance.

Rick R makes some important points.

For example in Kentucky, a person will face far different scrutiny in Louisville (Jefferson County) or Lexington (Fayette County) other things being equal, than they will in the other 118 counties in the state. Whereas handloaded, hollow points may be an issue in those two counties, it would probably even raise an eyebrow in the rural areas.

Another point, this one regarding handloaded ammo. The rationale for not carrying it is based upon the idea that ammo manufacturers retain samples by lot number that may be obtained by a competent defense team to duplicate ballistics and verify the defendant's claims or refute prosecutor's allegations.

Here is a link: http://www.edbrown.com/ls10/

My personal candidate for a G29 competitor would be on the old Beretta Cougar platform.  The 8357 and 8045 fit my hand perfectly. The weight and action handle recoil well.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: 10mm Suppressors
March 28 2017 12:20:46 PM MDT
I have several suppressors that I have purchase over the past 20 years. 9mm, 5.56, & .45. The .45 is a B&T, it is suitable for an H-K Tactical or Glock 21. I also have a recoil adapter to use on a Sig 220. Dry, with 45 ball ammo it sounds like a nail gun. I would expect the same out of a 180 Gr. 10MM load.

I have tried to get a 10MM glock barrel threaded for this unit but none of the mainline barrel people make a glock barrel with left hand, metric threads.

The 5.56 can is an advanced armament unit. It is military grade, made out of Monel & Inconel and designed to be used with full auto weapons. Using 55gr  standard ball round load, it sounds like 22 LR round. You have the ballistic crack, but not the muzzle blast or flash.

Under current NFA rules, you own these things for life. The cost of the tax stamp to transfer one makes it uneconomical to sell.

Gunsmithing / Glock 20 Barrel threaded 16MM x RH
August 29 2016 07:37:38 AM MDT
Does anyone have a recommendation of  a source for a Glock 20 Barrel threaded 16MM x RH (Same as HK Tactical)? My objective is to use my B&T suppressor on my G-21 & G-20.

I have checked the Bar-Sto, Storm Lake, Jarvis, & KKM web sites they don't list that option on a G-20.

Any input will be appreciated.

Got a reply from LWD. It's actually 40 grams difference.

That's interesting.

Since I have different site systems on my 20/20LS slides, I can't get a precise weight difference. I estimate that it is about 55 grams. I'm sending an Email to LW for the exact weight of each bare slide.

I've always assumed  that Glock used the 17# system on all Pre Gen 4 models  to make it functional  with a broad range of ammo.

What's your thinking on why  they do it?

The mass of the G40 slide is greater than that of a stock G20. That should have  a positive effect on reducing the effect of the recoil. In essence,  you should not have to increase the the weight of the recoil spring as much or any at all for the same load that you were shooting in a G20.

You can calculate all this if you want to go to a little trouble.  However, my Lone Wolf G20 LS with their 6.02" barrel works fine with an 18# spring
and a solid SS captive rod. It is actually more comfortable to shoot and more accurate than the standard G20 with a 22# spring using the same load.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: metering 800X ?
July 18 2015 11:07:08 AM MDT
Hi

My experience in manufacturing processes over 45 years has taught me one thing in particular. Volumetric metering of powdered materials is generally accurate to +/- 2%.  If that variance ( s2 is acceptable, use it. If it is not acceptable don't use it. In my reloading over the past 25 years, I have yet to have an issue using a Dillon Slide bar. If I am loading max loads, I hand weigh every charge.

Haybaler,

Have you tried a "Small of the Back" holster? I have the same physical problems that you described. I have found that carrying the gun in the center of my body is a lot easier on me.
Galco makes a great holster, and Taqua makes one for about 40% less.

Try this site (no pun intended). I use ther night sights on a G-17 and a G-21:  https://www.ameriglo.net/catalog/sights/pistol-sights

Good Luck

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: bad day for magnum primers
June 10 2015 10:45:09 AM MDT
Thank you for your reply.

That's very interesting. I have some older Speer data that  recommends that CCI 350 Primers be used with a max load of HS-6, 10.5 and HS-7, 12.0. These were test fired in an S&W 1006.  Perhaps as has been suggested, they are not appropriate for that particular powder.

The source is: " The Complete Reloading Manual for the 10mm & 40 S&W" 2008 edition.

Hello halfglocked,

May I ask what powder you were using with the magnum primers?

Alliant lists a Power Pistol load for a 165 gr GDP : http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/recipedetail.aspx?gtypeid=1&weight=165&shellid=30&bulletid=41.

You can email their technical dept and they will send you suggested loads in any powder you wish. Generally these will give you a starting point to develop your own loads.

Also if you look at their suggested loads for 40 cal they have more load data with different powders. I have  used 40 cal data as a starting point for load development with a new powder several times.

Power Pistol has a pretty good flash to it. They have a new powder BE 86 that supposedly has a flash suppressant in it: http://www.alliantpowder.com/products/powder/be-86.aspx
