General Discussion / Re: Didn't see this one coming!

There are two types of coverages in a homeowners policy: personal property and liability (negligence). Neither are dependent on each other.

Not to be offensive.....but based upon your 'what if' scenario; I don't think you have a full understanding of the coverages and exclusion contained in a homeowners policy. Without having to go into a lengthy dissertation, your 'what if' conclusion is inaccurate.  Some illegal acts may be covered under liability; some intentional acts may also be covered under liability. You may have watched too many CSI and Law & Order shows.

If you were not intending to offend, what was the purpose of the statement, "You may have watched too many CSI and Law & Order shows?"

My concern is raised from the memory I have of my policy stating that, and I paraphrase, "doing illegal stuff may void your policy."  So, my fear would be that my house catches fire because of X and the insurance company says something like, "Your house would not have been much of a loss without all that ammo inside.  Thus, we are not going to pay because it was illegal for you to have that much ammo and the policy says right here that 'doing illegal stuff may void your policy.'"

My concern with ignoring the law (which I probably would) is that if there ever is a fire, the imsurance might not pay because I was in violation.  Any thoughts?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: metering 800X ?

Can't help you w/ the RCBS, but I use the Hornady LnL measure and it works "ok" with the larger diameter "rifle" insert.  I can get +/- 0.3, but occasionally throw a -1.5 which is obvious before setting a bullet on it.  I'll never buy 800x again.  Got 1lb left.

Most tactical operators are not pointing a flashlight (and thus the gun) at people that they wouldn't be pointing their gun otherwise.

For those of us who are not tactical operators, it may make sense to use both.

Looks like what I've got too.  Good to know.

I bought two pounds of it and just opened the second one.  The first one had what you describe.  Not sure about the second one.  It wasn't very much at all.  Maybe one brown small bit per 5000 flakes or something.  I never thought much about it.  I loaded and shot it.  I can't wait until this next pound is gone!  Meters terribly which is bad for my intended use.  It also blows burning flakes out the end of my 6-inch barrell which is an annoyance.  I bought the wrong powder for my purpose (moderate, plinking loads, loaded in bulk).

From a 10mm newbie:  Thanks!

I have learned a lot here ... and still have much more to learn.

I hope my post didn't come across as a "lecture."  Not my intent at all.  There is no good answer with the draconian rules they have in place.  I have my opinion which leans more toward comply with the rules, take the short-term licks, and win in the long run.  Of course this doesn't always work and is not the right answer for every situation.  Again, there really is no good answer.  I'm sure you're doing a fine job with the boy and he will one day apprecate that.  Which is every parents dream.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Felt Recoil Glock 20

I shot my GI longslide alongside my friends G20c.  I preferred the recoil of the Glock.  Something about that big plastic grip I guess.  I still like my GI better, but the recoil of the Glock seemed more tame.

I think something is wrong!  Sorry, but I have no clue what.  Unless the barrell has gone south, I'd definitely contact Starline.

I just finished loading up some 210 grain JHPs with Longshot that should get around 1350!

My son is now 24.  He had his first fight around 8th grade.  A small scuffle ON THE SOCCER FIELD ... And the ref didn't even see it.  Both boys were playing hard and rough and the other kid got upset and shoved him.  My son took a swing.  I held my head low and hoped the other parents didn't notice.  I taught my son to walk away when he could.  In this case, he could have.

Ragarding your situation, many schools have a zero tolerance policy for fighting.  Both parties are automatically guilty.  They expect the defender to just take it until an adult comes and stops it.  Like it or not, it's policy.  I struggled with it, but didn't want to raise my child to disobey the rules.  So, what are the options:

Fight back and defend yourself and suffer the ramifications.  Our school systems would suspend both children three days.

Buck up and take the shoves or punches.  Let the other kid get tossed out from school.  Focus on the books and be his boss one day.

The real beef I had in the system was a friends child was suspended WHEN HE DIDN't EVEN DEFEND HIMSELF!  He was a party to the fight even if he just covered up and took the beating.

What else can we do?  Run for office.  Vote.  Be vocal about our opinions.  I agree that an investigation should be done and justice dispensed as appropriate instead of the zero tolerance policy where both parties are always treated equally as guilty.  However, if that's the system in place, I'd encourage my son to be the better man and take the licks and let the other kid take the harder fall by getting kicked out of school and working a dead-end job for the rest of his life.

I stole the idea from someone.  Maybe it was you ?

Not as much as I would like.  I sure wish I could pay another $50,000 in income tax every year.

I do keep plenty of ammo on hand for times when availability drops off.  I have about six months supply for my regular shooting needs.  This is north of 10,000 in a combination of loaded rounds and components.  Some of those are hollow points.

I do ... but haven't had any tome to go play with it and the new gat.
