I really appreciate your efforts to put this back together.

Thanks a bundle,

I have only owned ONE so my recommendation is lowly.  Its the Ruger SR1911 SS in 10mm.  Trigger was 5# but after polishing the parts that move against each other installing a C&S lighter spring, its now consistent at 2 3/4# and has never hiccupped.  When you add the Nelson or Marvel .22 conversion unit like I did, it will take all of your $2000 to pull it off.  The .22 is now my favorite and I have some other really good stuff.

With patience buying used you can get both for around $1300.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Rust Prevention

I saved this excellent test done by Day at the Range (is this Mr. Revolver Guy)  Its a long read but worth it.  I had two lifetimes of various lubes on site but bought some Hornady One Shot (not the case lube) after reading it.

Now legal in Colorado.  They used to have a minimum cartridge length they recently eliminated.  Regs are now 4" barrel minimum, 6mm or larger, no shoulder stocks or attachments, and minimum 550ft lbs energy at 50 yards.

Love the chest rig and have owned some really good stuff.  Simply Rugged makes an inexpensive adapter that will allow you to use most all of your current holsters set up for chest carry.  You need their chesty puller straps to make it work and with patience got mine for around $50 on eBay.  Sold two of the $175 rigs after getting this set up.

I will argue that the only way a 10mm headspaces on the case mouth is if EVERY case is the exact same length as the available chamber. If any cases are shorter then the chamber spec, the cartridge is not headspacing on the mouth, it is being held by the extractor. This is not a bottle neck rifle round. Given that short cases are held by the extractor, then a 40 case is also held by the extractor and is headspacing on it.... you make your own decisions.

I am with you Ethang on this issue.  Most of my 10mm cases run .985 average.  Saami chamber spec is .992 minimum-1.004 maximum.  I would not think it ever headspaces on the case mouth and whether it is .007 or .019 short of the end of chamber that means it would never touch.  Is there a difference between .010 and .500?  My G20SF has handled some .40's without a hiccup but I only did it to test the theory as I have more 10mm cases than I will ever use.  Yes, scrub the chamber clean after doing so.

Some brands have a lighting (LED) kit that helps in the Winter or in the basement.

Gunsmithing / Re: Lone Wolf G20L Slide?
December 29 2021 08:33:12 AM MST
I got one off eBay this year as it was just too cheap to pass up.  It is not marked LWD inside rear but looks like it came from the same source that Lone Wolf either makes or sources.  Fit and finish is just fine and I too have the KKM 7" nitride barrel.  I put threads and a comp on the end and still use my 22# spring.  Before comp the brass went 15' and now goes 10'.  The load I am shooting is 180gr jacketed with 9.1gr Longshot at 1.255.  Newer data for this powder is down around 8.2gr so proceed with caution.

Not sure I needed it as my stock G20 slide has been milled and a red dot with co witness sights installed.  It also works just fine with the KKM barrel.

I have enjoyed mine for a couple of years.  Previously used the CED Millenium and Chrony Beta Master and the Caldwell is preferred.  Also had the great 35P from TX that took real commitment to set up.  If the screens are in the shade they work a little better.  You will enjoy it!

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: 10mm 1911 longevity

Just put a comp on my G20 7" KKM barrel.  Not sure if velocity is affected yet but the emptys now go 10' vs 15' and the felt recoil might be about that same 1/3 reduction.  Looks problematic to get the rig out of a chest holster though.

I don't have much to offer on your original question as I only have the Ruger SR1911 10mm with under 1K rounds.  Only one hiccup locking back on round 5 from a 9 round magazine.

Loved reading both of your articles and especially appreciated the group sizes from2 3/4-3 1/2" out of the Bruin.  I get the same out of my Ruger but have read it is 1 1/2" capable at 50 yards!!!  My trigger breaks clean at 2 3/4# so that is not holding me back.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: 10mm ammo availability

When you reload .80 per round is always HIGH but in this case, Underwood produces this same bullet/1250 fps load and its $20 for 20 rounds.  About 18 months ago, Nosler had a over the top SALE on this stuff at $20 a box of 50 delivered.  At that price I bought a lifetime supply.

Dillon has always made great equipment but, most owners set-ups loading multiple calibers have multiple heads with powder measures etc. due to the extensive procedure it takes to change them out.  After I got my Hornady 5 hole and figured out how easy it is to change calibers, my friend with the D 550 sold his and bought one like mine.  Its easy to get over $2K in the Dillon 550 where the Hornady would be about $650 for multiple calibers.  I use the quick change bushing kit in my single stage that the Hornady has and set them both up for the same length so nothing needs adjustment going back and forth.  I have used the auto priming feature but really prefer to prime by hand negating some of the benefits of a progressive.  I do auto prime with most all lighter target loads in 9 & 10mm.

I feel pretty good loading hotter 10mm loads using 9.0gr of longshot but if I needed a max load closer to 9.4gr would weigh each load.  Some powders like 800X are a no go along with Varget for .223 as the case gets too full to keep from spilling but a powder like TAC works great.  New load testing of 20 to 50 rounds always gets done on the single stage.

Thanks for weighing in but help me understand which one is option #2.  Right now I assume its the .44mag FCD with 10mm crimping guts.
