O boy! While it may be functional, I don't think I would want to be seen with one.

Gunsmithing / extraction problem with 1006
July 07 2022 08:50:03 AM MDT
Last time I took my 1006 for some range therapy, I started with 10.2 grs of B/D under a 180 gr fmj w/ new  starline brass. First time I fired, had an extraction problem. Cleared it and ejected fine the next time. Then a fte again. Out of a full magazine, had several fte. I said maybe I got some bad brass and switched to some reloads which had been run thru a full size lee unit. Same problem with about ? a magazine of fte.
Last night, I took a good look at the extractor and noticed some "crud" under the part of the extractor which fits over the head of brass in the grove so this am, I cleaned that part of the extractor very well. Was using  a clean rag with a toothbrush and noticed  that rag was dirty after some cleaning. Then went to my shop and ran 18 loaded rounds with NO fte. Needless to say, I was very happy. It is surprising how the smallest amount of "crud" can cause a malfunction. Apparently, when cleaning the slide, I must have pushed some "crud" on to the ejector.
For sure, when I fire and clean the 1006 again, I will pay particular attention to the extractor and make sure it is clean.

This one is flat on the end. Trying to locate a used one. Can get one from Numrich that is brand new. Would accept a blued one. I know 45XX series will fit 1006 and was told that a 40XX would also fit. Please correct me if I am wrong on the 40XXs.

Thanks

Den Stinett posted a picture of his brass catcher sometime ago w/ a M1A, I think, pictured with it and later posted the dimensions of the catcher due to a request from another member.  I built one based on his and made a stand from scrap wood. Had to use 2 of the "bags" and make it deeper to suit my needs.
It works fine and if brass occasionally  bounces out of the bag, it ends up right at my feet so I hardly ever loose any brass. I belong to a private, outdoor range.
Thanks to Den Stinett for posting that picture several years ago.

10mm revolvers / Re: Range Day
March 01 2021 12:08:07 PM MST
Got 17 for $24.00 from Ranch Products ( bakers doz. ? - ordered 16 ) I have trouble with some of the brass going into these clips. Ordered 10 plastic clips for $32.60. Have some nickel plated cases I was using for my 610 that don't cause problems using the Ranch clips. Now have 45 moon clips so I don't need any more, counting 18 Ruger moon clips. Got the dozen Ruger clips from S&W free when they repaired my 625 and returned it.

10mm revolvers / Range Day
March 01 2021 09:25:16 AM MST
IN need of some range therapy today. Decided I would take a risk re rain. It has been raining so much here in NC. Maybe it's monsoon season.
Took my 5" GP-100 and about 18 full moon clips of plinking ammo-180s over 7 grs of Long Shot. I am all in for full moon clips as you can load up and go quite quickly as compared to using a semi-auto.
I had to send my 625-6 to S&W due to a malfunction and when it was returned-spring for yoke screw?- it functioned as it should. I noticed  several packs of full moon clips in the box and when I looked more closely at them, immediately saw that they were not for a .45. IN total, there were 12 clips   that must have been  manufactured for  the S&W 646. They were identical to the 3 that Ruger supplied with the GP. No way would I pay about $6.00 a piece for them but I will use them and glad to get them.
GP was accurate and seems to like L/S.
Really like the GP but had to replace the grips that were supplied.
Did get to fire 14 clips before it started raining so I feel just about restored, lol.

Political discussion / Here we go again

I don't think this bill will pass but it is crazy. My fear is that if they start introducing antigun legislation " a bit-at-a-time", 2nd amendment rights will be pointless because it will be virtually impossible to own a firearm.

Political discussion / Re: About Jane Fonda.

This is old and probably some of you have read this before but I will post it anyway. I think I have all the basic details correct.
Jane and Ted went into a very exclusive restaurant in Montana, I think, and Hanoi Jane became incensed when she was told she would have to wait or could not be seated because she did not have a reservation. She asked very loudly, do you know who I am?  At some point the owner approached  and told her that he knew exactly who she was and she would not be seated this night or any other night as long as he was around. Turns out that the owner was a vietnam vet.

Love my G20-3 and would prefer it to a wheel gun all day, any day.
. Had some work on "innards " and it has a 4 lb trigger

Like mine also. For me, it has a good balance and its weight compared to my 1006 or Witness match is easier on my 78 yr old shoulders. Accurate and seems to like Blue Dot better. Since it is for target shooting only, the "cut-out " slide doesn't bother me and it helps with the weight.

Reloading / headstamped 10 mm brass w/ A USA
January 05 2020 11:36:24 AM MST
Any one used any of this brass. In goggling this, it says it is Armscor  and it was manufactured in USA not Phillipines. I was gifted some brass from private outdoor range. Any one used it? Don"t plan to fully charge cases as it seems to be reloads as my friend gave me a bag of mixed brass that came from the same range session- some RP, Starline and Winchester- that was fired in a Glock.  Some reviewers said the primer pockets too shallow and off center. Just wanted to see what experiences some of my 10mm brethren had experienced, if any.
Thanks

10mm revolvers / Re: 10mm Auto Rim anyone???

Love my moon clips and can not imagine now having to load 6 rounds, one at a time. Sure it takes some time loading them before hand but not that much longer than loading magazines. Since I do not have to set up my brass catcher ( it is not that time consuming ) and chase down brass like I did before I made the catcher, it does not take any longer to use the clips and if fact seems to take less time.  Have a 610, Gp100, and a 625 and love full moon clips. So for me, I am not interested in ar brass.
